The scholar's text
One who victoriously prevails over His enemies and punishes them for their sins. Allah is most patient, but the time will come when justice must be given. Avoid things which Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ has forbidden, for He is swift and just with His punishment and does not let trespassing go unaccounted for.

We Will Surely Inflict Punishment
The verse of Al-Muntaqim is addressed to the Prophet ﷺ: even if We take you away from this world, We will surely inflict punishment upon them (43:41). If We take you before showing you the punishment We promise them, al-Sa'di explains, know by Our true word that We will punish them. The Name Al-Muntaqim itself comes among the Names listed in a report of at-Tirmidhi (3507) that al-Albani judged weak.
Arabic:
Upon the Wicked
﴿وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهَآ ۚ إِنَّا مِنَ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ مُنتَقِمُونَ﴾And who does more wrong than the one who is reminded of Allah’s revelations then turns away from them? We will surely inflict punishment upon the wicked.
32:22 names who it falls on: who does more wrong than the one who is reminded of Allah's revelations and then turns away from them? We will surely inflict punishment upon the wicked. No one does more wrong, al-Sa'di says, than the person reminded by the signs his Lord sent him, signs meant to raise him and complete His favour through the messengers. Turning his back on them puts him among the worst of the wicked, those who deserve a severe punishment.
Almighty, Capable of Punishment
﴿مِن قَبْلُ هُدًى لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَنزَلَ ٱلْفُرْقَانَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ ذُو ٱنتِقَامٍ﴾previously, as a guide for people, and ˹also˺ revealed the Decisive Authority. Surely those who reject Allah’s revelations will suffer a severe torment. For Allah is Almighty, capable of punishment.
Elsewhere the Quran says Allah is Almighty, capable of punishment, as in 3:4. Strong, al-Sa'di explains, with nothing able to defeat Him, and He punishes whoever disobeys. On 39:37 he draws the warning: beware of what brings on His punishment. And on 14:47, which closes Allah's promise to His messengers with Almighty, capable of punishment, he spells out the promise: their rescue and their followers', their happiness, and the ruin of their enemies here and their punishment in the Hereafter.
Arabic:
Whoever Does It Again
Do not kill game while on pilgrimage. Whoever kills game intentionally must compensate by offering its equivalence, as judged by two just men among you, to be offered at the Sacred House, or by feeding the needy, or by fasting so that they may taste the consequences of their violations. Allah has forgiven what has been done. But those who persist will be punished by Allah. And Allah is Almighty, capable of punishment.
5:95, on killing game during pilgrimage, sets compensation, then says: Allah has forgiven what has been done, but those who persist will be punished by Allah. Al-Sa'di draws a line between two people. The one who does it on purpose faces the compensation and the punishment, because Allah attached both to wilful acts; the one who does it by mistake owes only the compensation.
Never for Himself
The Prophet ﷺ showed where a servant's anger belongs. Aisha said: “Whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was given the choice of one of two matters, he would choose the easier of the two, as long as it was not sinful to do so, but if it was sinful to do so, he would not approach it. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) never took revenge (over anybody) for his own sake but (he did) only when Allah's Legal Bindings were outraged in which case he would take revenge for Allah's Sake” (Sahih al-Bukhari 3560).
Arabic:
From the Sunnah
