One of the Most Beautiful Names of Allah
Al-Mughni
The Enricher
Al-Mughni is the Enricher, the One who gives His creation wealth, sufficiency and enrichment. The act is in many verses, as in 53:48: it is He who enriches. The Prophet ﷺ put it in one line: true wealth is in the soul.
Key verse
And He is the One Who enriches and impoverishes.

He Enriches, and Gives What Is Kept
53:48 says two things Allah does, and the second has been understood in more than one way. The translation quoted above says suffices; The Clear Quran says impoverishes. The early explanations al-Baghawi collects run from one end to the other: for Abu Salih it means He gave wealth and what people keep beyond their needs, for Ibn Abbas that He gave and satisfied, for Mujahid that He made people content with what He gave, and for al-Akhfash that He made poor. Al-Sa'di takes both as gifts. People were enriched through an easier livelihood, through trades and crafts, and given property to keep, and since every blessing is from Him, he says, the thanks and the worship are owed to Him alone.
Arabic:
No Door Closes Without Another Opening
Indeed, the polytheists are ˹spiritually˺ impure, so they should not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year. If you fear poverty, Allah will enrich you out of His bounty, if He wills. Surely, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
9:28 barred the idolaters from the Sacred Mosque, and the believers feared poverty, since trade with them would stop. Al-Sa'di's answer to that fear is plain: provision does not hang on one door or one place, and no door is closed but others open. The verse keeps the promise in His hand. It says if He wills, and it ends on His knowledge and His wisdom.
Marriage, and Parting
﴿وَأَنكِحُوا۟ ٱلْأَيَـٰمَىٰ مِنكُمْ وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ مِنْ عِبَادِكُمْ وَإِمَآئِكُمْ ۚ إِن يَكُونُوا۟ فُقَرَآءَ يُغْنِهِمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ﴾Marry off the ˹free˺ singles among you, as well as the righteous of your bondmen and bondwomen. If they are poor, Allah will enrich them out of His bounty. For Allah is All-Bountiful, All-Knowing.
Two family verses carry the same promise. 24:32 tells guardians to marry off the single, and al-Sa'di warns against the fear that marrying brings poverty through a large family: the verse urges marriage and promises wealth after poverty. 4:130 is about spouses who part. Allah will enrich each of them from His bounty, al-Sa'di says, the husband with a better wife and the wife from His provision, perhaps with a better husband. He gives with wisdom and withholds with wisdom.
Found You in Need
And did He not find you needy then satisfied your needs?
Surah ad-Duha reminds the Prophet ﷺ of three things Allah did for him: an orphan sheltered (93:6), the unguided guided (93:7), and the third, 93:8. Al-Sa'di draws a lesson from the past that holds for the future. The One who removed these lacks will remove every lack, and the One who brought you to sufficiency, sheltered you, helped you and guided you is owed thanks for His blessing.
Arabic:
Wealth of the Soul
The Prophet ﷺ moved the word from the purse to the heart: “Wealth is not in having many possessions, but rather (true) wealth is feeling sufficiency in the soul” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6446). He also told people how to reach it: “whoever abstains from asking others for some financial help, Allah will give him and save him from asking others, Allah will make him self-sufficient” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1427). The hadith qudsi quoted above adds the other side, giving, in Allah's own words: “O son of Adam, spend. I will spend on you” (Sahih Muslim 993).
Arabic:
From the Sunnah
O son of Adam, spend. I will spend on you. The right hand of Allah is full and overflowing and in nothing would diminish it, by overspending day and night
Wealth is not in having many possessions, but rather (true) wealth is feeling sufficiency in the soul
