من النبي الذي سأل رؤية ربه؟
Musa (Moses), peace be upon him. "And when Musa (Moses) came at the time and place appointed by Us, and his Lord spoke to him, he said, 'O my Lord! Show me (Yourself), that I may look upon You.' Allah said, 'You cannot see Me, but look upon the mountain; if it stands still in its place, then you shall see Me.' So when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He made it collapse to dust, and Musa (Moses) fell down unconscious. Then when he recovered his senses he said, 'Glory be to You, I turn to You in repentance and I am the first of the believers'" (Surah Al-A'raf 7:143).
موسى عليه السلام. وَلَمَّا جَاءَ مُوسَىٰ لِمِيقَاتِنَا وَكَلَّمَهُ رَبُّهُ قَالَ رَبِّ أَرِنِي أَنظُرْ إِلَيْكَ قَالَ لَن تَرَانِي وَلَـٰكِنِ انظُرْ إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَإِنِ اسْتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهُ فَسَوْفَ تَرَانِي ۚ فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّىٰ رَبُّهُ لِلْجَبَلِ جَعَلَهُ دَكًّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقًا ۚ فَلَمَّا أَفَاقَ قَالَ سُبْحَانَكَ تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (سورة الأعراف: 143).
1. What Happened at the Appointed Meeting | ما حدث في الميقات
Allah had summoned Musa to a specific time and place to speak with him directly, a unique honor described elsewhere in the Quran as Allah having "spoken to Musa directly" (Surah An-Nisa 4:164, covered in Did the Quran Mention All the Prophets and Messengers?). It was in this moment of direct address that Musa asked to see Allah with his own eyes.

2. Why He Could Not See Allah in This Life | لماذا لم يستطع رؤية الله في الدنيا
Allah's answer, "You cannot see Me," is understood by scholars to mean that no human being can withstand seeing Allah while still in this worldly life, not that Allah can never be seen at all. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, later confirmed that believers will see Allah in Paradise: "You will see your Lord as you see this moon, and you will have no trouble in looking at Him" (Sahih al-Bukhari 554). What was withheld from Musa in this world is promised to the believers in the Hereafter.
يفهم العلماء إجابة الله، "لن تراني"، على أنها تعني أن لا أحد من البشر يستطيع تحمل رؤية الله وهو لا يزال في هذه الحياة الدنيا، لا أن الله لا يُرى أبدا على الإطلاق. وقد أكد النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم لاحقا أن المؤمنين سيرون الله في الجنة: "سترون ربكم كما ترون هذا القمر، لا تُضامون في رؤيته" (صحيح البخاري: 554). فما مُنع منه موسى في الدنيا وُعد به المؤمنون في الآخرة.
3. The Mountain That Could Not Bear It | الجبل الذي لم يتحمل
Allah gave Musa a sign instead of a direct answer: if the mountain could remain standing when Allah's light appeared to it, then Musa would be able to see Him. The mountain, solid rock far greater in mass than any human being, collapsed to dust the instant it was tested. Musa himself fell unconscious from merely witnessing the effect on the mountain, not Allah directly, showing how far beyond human capacity such a sight is in this world.
أعطى الله موسى علامة بدلا من إجابة مباشرة: إن استطاع الجبل أن يبقى ثابتا حين يتجلى له نور الله، فسيتمكن موسى من رؤيته. لكن الجبل، وهو صخر صلب أعظم كتلة بكثير من أي إنسان، تدكدك إلى غبار فور الاختبار. وسقط موسى نفسه مغشيا عليه لمجرد مشاهدة الأثر على الجبل، لا على الله مباشرة، مما يبين كم يفوق هذا المشهد طاقة البشر في هذه الدنيا.
4. Musa's Response: Repentance, Not Regret | استجابة موسى: التوبة لا الندم
When Musa recovered, he did not question Allah's decision. He immediately declared Allah's perfection, turned to Him in repentance, and affirmed his faith, "I am the first of the believers." His response models how a believer should react when a sincere request is met with a greater wisdom than expected, with humility and renewed faith rather than complaint.
حين أفاق موسى، لم يعترض على قرار الله. بل سارع إلى تنزيه الله وتوبته إليه وتأكيد إيمانه: "وأنا أول المؤمنين". وتُعد استجابته نموذجا لكيفية تصرف المؤمن حين يُقابل طلبه الصادق بحكمة أعظم مما توقع، بالتواضع وتجديد الإيمان لا بالشكوى.
