What Miracles Did Allah Give Jesus?
He spoke to the people while still an infant in the crib.
He could mould a bird from clay and when he blew into it, it became a real bird by the Will of Allah.
He could heal the lepers, and the blind by the Will of Allah.
He would raise the dead by Will of Allah. And he was able to tell each one what he has in his house.
(˹Remember˺ when the angels proclaimed, “O Mary! Allah gives you good news of a Word from Him, his name will be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary; honoured in this world and the Hereafter, and he will be one of those nearest ˹to Allah˺. And he will speak to people in ˹his˺ infancy and adulthood and will be one of the righteous.” Mary wondered, “My Lord! How can I have a child when no man has ever touched me?” An angel replied, “So will it be. Allah creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He simply tells it, ‘Be!’ And it is! And Allah will teach him writing and wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel, and ˹make him˺ a messenger to the Children of Israel ˹to proclaim,˺ “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord: I will make for you a bird from clay, breathe into it, and it will become a ˹real˺ bird - by Allah’s Will. I will heal the blind and the leper and raise the dead to life - by Allah’s Will. And I will prophesize what you eat and store in your houses. Surely in this is a sign for you if you ˹truly˺ believe.) Al-Imran 3:45-49
(And ˹on Judgment Day˺ Allah will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember My favour upon you and your mother: how I supported you with the holy spirit so you spoke to people in ˹your˺ infancy and adulthood. How I taught you writing, wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel. How you moulded a bird from clay - by My Will - and breathed into it and it became a ˹real˺ bird - by My Will. How you healed the blind and the lepers - by My Will. How you brought the dead to life - by My Will. How I prevented the Children of Israel from harming you when you came to them with clear proofs and the disbelievers among them said, “This is nothing but pure magic.”) Al-Ma’idah 5:110
(Then she returned to her people, carrying him. They said ˹in shock˺, “O Mary! You have certainly done a horrible thing! O sister of Aaron! Your father was not an indecent man, nor was your mother unchaste.” So she pointed to the baby. They exclaimed, “How can we talk to someone who is an infant in the cradle?” Jesus declared, “I am truly a servant of Allah. He has destined me to be given the Scripture and to be a prophet. He has made me a blessing wherever I go, and bid me to establish prayer and give alms-tax as long as I live, and to be kind to my mother. He has not made me arrogant or defiant. Peace be upon me the day I was born, the day I die, and the day I will be raised back to life!” That is Jesus, son of Mary. ˹And this is˺ a word of truth, about which they dispute.) Maryam 19:27-34

1. Speaking in the Cradle in Infancy |
One of the miracles of Jesus came while he was still an infant in the cradle: he spoke, declaring that he was Allah's servant, that Allah had destined him to be given the Scripture and to be a prophet (19:30), and so cleared his mother of the accusation.
2. Breathing Life into Clay Birds by Allah's Permission |
Jesus fashioned the shape of a bird from ordinary mud or clay, breathed into it, and by Allah's permission alone, it transformed into a living, flying bird. The Quran consistently emphasizes the phrase "by My permission" (bi-idhni) to make clear that creative power belongs solely to Allah.
3. Curing the Blind and the Leper |
Many scholars, as Ibn Kathir reports, explain that medicine was highly regarded in Jesus's time, and he was granted miracles that surpassed it: restoring sight to the blind (al-akmah, which Ibn Kathir explains as one born blind) and curing leprosy (al-abras), by Allah's divine leave.
4. Raising the Dead to Earthly Life | إحياء الموتى بإذن الله القادر على البعث
Allah lists among His favours to Jesus: "How you brought the dead to life, by My Will" (5:110). Ibn Kathir explains that he would call them and they would rise from their graves by Allah's permission, power, will and decree.
5. Revealing Hidden Secrets and the Heavenly Table |
Jesus told people what they ate and what they stored in their houses (3:49). At his disciples' request he also prayed for a table spread with food from heaven, and Allah answered, "I am sending it down to you" (5:115); Ibn Kathir reports that the majority held it was sent down, the view Ibn Jarir chose.
Scholarly Insight: The Prophet ﷺ said about earlier prophetic signs and his revelation (Sahih al-Bukhari 4981): “There was no prophet who was not given signs through which people believed. What I was given was revelation which Allah revealed to me, so I hope to have the most followers among them on the Day of Resurrection.” See the miracles granted to Prophet Muhammad. Frequently Asked Questions | الأسئلة الشائعة
What were the main miracles granted to Prophet Jesus in the Quran?
Speaking in the cradle, creating a living bird from clay, healing the blind and leper, raising the dead, revealing hidden household secrets, and the sending down of the heavenly table.
Did Jesus perform these miracles through his own independent divine power?
No, the Quran repeats "by Allah's permission" (bi-idhni Allah) when describing several of these miracles, showing they were created by Allah alone through His servant.
What does "al-akmah" mean in the description of his healing miracle?
Ibn Kathir favors the interpretation that it refers to a person born blind, whose restoration to full sight was completely beyond human medical capability.
Why were these specific miracles given to Jesus?
According to an explanation cited by Ibn Kathir, because the people of his time took great pride in medicine and healing, so his miracles directly surpassed their highest worldly knowledge.
