How Was the Prophet (PBUH) Distinguished Over the Prophets Before Him?
بما فضل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم على من سبقه من الأنبياء؟
The hadith refers to the characteristics of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that distinguished him from all the other prophets:
Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I have been granted five things that none of the prophets before me was granted: I have been made victorious with the awe from a one month distance; the earth has been made a place of worship for me and a means of purification; so, anyone of my Ummah should pray wherever he may be when the time of prayer is due; the spoils of war have been made lawful for me, whereas it was not lawful for anyone before me; I have been granted (the privilege of) intercession; and all the prophets before me were sent to their people in specific, whereas I have been sent to all mankind.”
الحديث يجيب عن سؤال خصائص النبي ﷺ التي ميزته عن الأنبياء
عن جابر بن عبد الله-رضي الله عنه- أنَّ النبيَّ ﷺ قالَ: “أُعْطِيتُ خَمْسًا لَمْ يُعْطَهُنَّ أحَدٌ قَبْلِي: نُصِرْتُ بالرُّعْبِ مَسِيرَةَ شَهْرٍ، وجُعِلَتْ لي الأرْضُ مَسْجِدًا وطَهُورًا، فأيُّما رَجُلٍ مِن أُمَّتي أدْرَكَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ فَلْيُصَلِّ، وأُحِلَّتْ لي المَغَانِمُ ولَمْ تَحِلَّ لأحَدٍ قَبْلِي، وأُعْطِيتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ، وكانَ النبيُّ يُبْعَثُ إلى قَوْمِهِ خَاصَّةً وبُعِثْتُ إلى النَّاسِ عَامَّةً“
1. Universal Commission to All Mankind | عموم الرسالة لجميع الثقلين من الإنس والجن
Whereas earlier prophets were commissioned exclusively to their specific tribes, nations, and linguistic communities, Muhammad was sent as the final, universal guide for all humanity: "And We have not sent you except comprehensively to mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner." (34:28). His message transcends race, geography, and era.
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا كَافَّةً لِّلنَّاسِ بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا (سورة سبأ: 28)
كان النبي السابق يُبعث إلى قومه خاصة في بيئة محدودة وزمن معين، بينما خُص النبي ﷺ بعموم الرسالة للبشرية جمعاء وإلى قيام الساعة؛ كما قال تعالى: {وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا كَافَّةً لِّلنَّاسِ بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا}، فلا نبي بعده ودينه ناسخ لما قبله.
2. The Entire Earth Made a Mosque and Pure | جعل الأرض كلها مسجداً وطهوراً للأمة
In earlier dispensations, worship was restricted to dedicated temples, tabernacles, or designated altars. For Muhammad and his followers, the entire surface of the earth was sanctified as a place of valid prostration, and its clean soil made a means of purification through Tayammum whenever water is unavailable.
فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُم مِّنْهُ (سورة المائدة: 6)
كانت الأمم السابقة لا تصح صلاتهم إلا في معابدهم وصوامعهم؛ فخص الله هذه الأمة بالتيسير ورفع الحرج؛ فجعل أديم الأرض كلها صالحاً لإقامة الصلاة، وترابها طهوراً عند فقد الماء عبر التيمم، لتظل الصلة بالله قائمة في كل بقعة.
3. The Grand Intercession (Al-Maqam al-Mahmud) | الشفاعة العظمى والمقام المحمود في أرض المحشر
On the Day of Resurrection, when all mankind stands terrified under the scorching heat of judgment and earlier resolute prophets decline to intercede, Muhammad will prostrate beneath the Divine Throne. Allah will say: "O Muhammad, raise your head; speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted."
عَسَىٰ أَن يَبْعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامًا مَّحْمُودًا (سورة الإسراء: 79)
يوم القيامة حين يلجم الناس العرق ويتراجع أولو العزم من الرسل عن الشفاعة لفصل القضاء، يخر النبي ﷺ ساجداً تحت العرش ويحمد ربه بمحامد يلهمه إياها؛ فيقال له: "يا محمد ارفع رأسك، وسل تُعطه، واشفع تُشفّع"، وهو المقام المحمود الذي وعده ربه.
4. Victory with Awe and Lawful Spoils | النصر بالرعب وإحلال الغنائم رحمة وتخفيفاً
Allah instilled awe in the hearts of his enemies across the vast distance of a month's travel, neutralizing aggression before armies met. Furthermore, war spoils, which earlier nations were required to burn or surrender to heavenly fire, were made lawful and pure for this Ummah to strengthen their society.
فَكُلُوا مِمَّا غَنِمْتُمْ حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا (سورة الأنفال: 69)
أيد الله نبيه بإلقاء الرعب في قلوب أعدائه على مسيرة شهر كامل فتنكسر شوكتهم قُبيل اللقاء، وأحل لأمته الغنائم التي كانت محرمة على من قبلهم حيث كانت تنزل نار من السماء فتحرقها، تفضلاً من الله وإعانة للمسلمين.
