Allah says: And He is the One Who created all things in pairs, and made for you ships and animals to ride, so that you may sit firmly on their backs, and remember your Lord’s blessing once you are settled on them (43:12-13). Ibn Kathir explains that He subjected the animals to you and made them easy for you, to eat their meat, drink their milk and ride their backs, and that you remember your Lord’s blessing in what He subjected to you. On the words and we could have never done so (muqrinin), Ibn Abbas, Qatadah, as-Suddi and Ibn Zayd said: able; had Allah not subjected this to us, we would not have been able to manage it.
لِتَسْتَوُوا عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِ ثُمَّ تَذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ رَبِّكُمْ إِذَا اسْتَوَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ (سورة الزخرف: 13)

قال تعالى: (والذي خلق الأزواج كلها وجعل لكم من الفلك والأنعام ما تركبون) (الزخرف 43: 12)، (لتستووا على ظهوره ثم تذكروا نعمة ربكم إذا استويتم عليه) (الزخرف 43: 13)، قال ابن كثير: أي: ذللها لكم وسخرها ويسرها لأكلكم لحومها، وشربكم ألبانها وركوبكم ظهورها، ثم تذكروا نعمة ربكم: أي فيما سخر لكم، وما كنا له مقرنين: أي مقاومين، ولولا تسخير الله لنا هذا ما قدرنا عليه، قال ابن عباس، وقتادة، والسدي وابن زيد: مقرنين: أي مطيقين.

On the words and surely to our Lord we will return (43:14), Ibn Kathir explains: we will go to Him after our death, and to Him is our greatest journey. The journey of this world draws attention to the journey of the Hereafter, just as Allah draws attention through worldly provision to the provision of the Hereafter: Take provision, and the best provision is righteousness (2:197), and through worldly clothing to the clothing of righteousness (7:26).
وَتَزَوَّدُوا فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الزَّادِ التَّقْوَىٰ (سورة البقرة: 197)

قال ابن كثير في قوله تعالى: (وإنا إلى ربنا لمنقلبون) (الزخرف 43: 14): أي: لصائرون إليه بعد مماتنا، وإليه سيرنا الأكبر، وهذا من باب التنبيه بسير الدنيا على سير الآخرة، كما نبه بالزاد الدنيوي على الزاد الأخروي في قوله: (وتزودوا فإن خير الزاد التقوى) (البقرة 2: 197)، وباللباس الدنيوي على الأخروي في قوله تعالى: (وريشا ولباس التقوى ذلك خير) (الأعراف 7: 26).

Ibn Umar taught that whenever the Messenger of Allah mounted his camel setting out on a journey, he said Allahu akbar three times, then said: Glory be to the One Who has subjected this for us, for we could never have done so on our own, and surely to our Lord we will return. O Allah, we ask You on this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey of ours easy for us and fold up its distance for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the One left in charge of the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, a distressing sight, and an evil return in wealth and family. When he returned, he said them and added: Returning, repenting, worshipping, praising our Lord (Sahih Muslim 1342). The traveler’s prayer itself is explained in how a traveler prays.
وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ الْفُلْكِ وَالْأَنْعَامِ مَا تَرْكَبُونَ (سورة الزخرف: 12)

عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا استوى على بعيره خارجا إلى سفر كبر ثلاثا ثم قال: "سبحان الذي سخر لنا هذا وما كنا له مقرنين وإنا إلى ربنا لمنقلبون، اللهم إنا نسألك في سفرنا هذا البر والتقوى، ومن العمل ما ترضى، اللهم هون علينا سفرنا هذا واطو عنا بعده، اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الأهل، اللهم إني أعوذ بك من وعثاء السفر وكآبة المنظر وسوء المنقلب في المال والأهل"، وإذا رجع قالهن، وزاد فيهن: "آيبون تائبون عابدون لربنا حامدون" (صحيح مسلم 1342).

Nuh said to those he was commanded to carry in the Ark: Board it; in the name of Allah are its course and its anchorage; indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful (11:41). Ibn Kathir explains: by the name of Allah is its sailing on the water, and by the name of Allah is the end of its journey, its anchoring. Allah also told him: when you and those with you are settled on the Ark, say: Praise be to Allah, Who saved us from the wrongdoing people, and say: My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, for You are the best to bring to land (23:28-29). So, Ibn Kathir says, it is recommended to say Bismillah at the start of things: when boarding a ship and when riding an animal. Nuh’s other supplications are gathered with the supplications of the Messengers.
وَقَالَ ارْكَبُوا فِيهَا بِسْمِ اللَّهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ (سورة هود: 41)

قال تعالى عن نوح عليه السلام: (وقال اركبوا فيها بسم الله مجراها ومرساها إن ربي لغفور رحيم) (هود 11: 41)، قال ابن كثير: أي: بسم الله يكون جريها على وجه الماء، وبسم الله يكون منتهى سيرها، وهو رسوها، وقال الله تعالى: (فإذا استويت أنت ومن معك على الفلك فقل الحمد لله الذي نجانا من القوم الظالمين وقل رب أنزلني منزلا مباركا وأنت خير المنزلين) (المؤمنون 23: 28-29)، ولهذا تستحب التسمية في ابتداء الأمور: عند الركوب على السفينة وعلى الدابة.
