How does one remember Allah, Glorified be He?
The Quran and Sunnah provide a comprehensive framework for maintaining a constant connection with the Creator throughout one's life.
The Methodology of Constant Remembrance |
1. Remembrance in All Daily States
By remembering Him in all his conditions and times: when he wakes up and when he goes to sleep, when he enters the restroom and when he leaves it, when he eats and when he finishes eating, when he enters his home and when he leaves it. "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to remember Allah at all times." (This continuous practice transforms mundane daily habits into rewarding acts of worship).
2. After Prescribed Rituals
(When you have fulfilled your sacred rites, praise Allah as you used to praise your forefathers [before Islam], or even more passionately. There are some who say, “Our Lord! Grant us [Your bounties] in this world,” but they will have no share in the Hereafter.) Al-Baqara 2: 200.
(When the prayers are over, remember Allah, whether you are standing, sitting, or lying down. But when you are secure, establish regular prayers. Indeed, performing prayers is a duty on the believers at the appointed times.) An-Nisa'a 4:103. (These verses show that even after major acts of worship like Hajj or daily prayers, the believer immediately transitions into Dhikr to maintain the spiritual momentum).
3. Inward Humility and the Divine Promise
(Remember your Lord inwardly with humility and reverence and in a moderate tone of voice, both morning and evening. And do not be one of the heedless.) Al-A’araf 7: 205.
(remember Me; I will remember you. And thank Me, and never be ungrateful.) Al-Baqara 2: 152. (The core of remembrance is a humble, attentive heart that recognizes its complete dependence on the Creator, earning the ultimate honor of being remembered by Him).
Scholarly Insight: In Islamic Jurisprudence and Spirituality (Tazkiyah), scholars emphasize that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ provided a specific supplication (Du'a) for almost every transition in daily life: waking up, dressing, entering the bathroom, eating, leaving the house, and traveling. This extensive framework of "Prophetic Adhkar" ensures that a believer is literally fulfilling the Quranic command to remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying down. By learning and reciting these daily supplications, a Muslim's entire day, including their permissible worldly activities, is elevated to a state of perpetual worship and mindfulness (Muraqabah).
