Why do we need the Holy Quran? And why is it the eternal miracle?
If the simple and man-made machine needs a manual that teaches us how to use it optimally, then man, whom Allah the Almighty has created, needs for a greater reason, a book of guidance that guides to the path of success, prosperity, and goodness in this world and the Hereafter.
The Divine Guide and the Unmatched Miracle |
1. The Creator's Knowledge of His Creation
Allah the Almighty says: (How could He not know His Own creation? For He alone is the Most Subtle, All-Aware.) [Al-Mulk 67: 14]
2. The Necessity of an Immortal Miracle
The Holy Quran is a miracle, because Prophet Muhammad is the last of the Prophets, and so his miracle should continue and be immortal since there is no prophet after him. Hence, the proof against the creation's claims should last till the Day of Resurrection.
3. The Divine Challenge
With the Holy Quran, Allah the Almighty challenged the Arabs, for they were the best in eloquence, but both mankind and jinn were unable to come up with something similar to the Holy Quran. Allah the Almighty says: (Say, O Prophet, "If all humans and jinn were to come together to produce the equivalent of this Holy Quran, they could not produce its equal, no matter how they supported each other.") [Al-Israa 17: 88]
Scholarly Insight: Drawing from the Seerah (Prophetic biography) and the consensus of Islamic scholars: the miracles given to previous prophets were physical and bound to their specific times and nations, such as the staff of Musa (Moses) or the healing abilities of Isa (Jesus). Because Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Seal of the Prophets sent to all of humanity until the end of time, his primary miracle had to be intellectual, linguistic, and everlasting. The Holy Quran serves as this immortal proof: challenging the height of human eloquence and remaining perfectly preserved across generations to guide mankind.
Frequently Asked Questions |

Why is the miracle of the Holy Quran immortal compared to other miracles?
The Holy Quran is an eternal miracle because Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the last of the Prophets. Since there are no prophets after him, the proof of his message must continue and remain valid against creation's claims until the Day of Resurrection.
What was the challenge presented by Allah regarding the Holy Quran?
Allah challenged the Arabs, who were masters of eloquence, as well as all of mankind and jinn, to come together and produce the equivalent of the Holy Quran. The text affirms that even if they supported each other, they could never produce its equal.
