Surah Yusuf is unique in the Quran for narrating one Prophet's story from beginning to end within a single continuous surah, rather than in scattered passages across several surahs as with most other prophetic accounts. Allah introduces it directly as a superior narrative: "We relate to you the best of stories through Our revelation of this Quran, though before this you were totally unaware of them" (Surah Yusuf 12:3).
نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ هَـٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ وَإِن كُنتَ مِن قَبْلِهِ لَمِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ (سورة يوسف: 3)

انفردت قصة يوسف عليه السلام في القرآن الكريم بأنها جاءت كاملة، من أولها إلى آخرها، في سورة واحدة متصلة السياق، على خلاف أكثر قصص الأنبياء التي جاءت مفرّقة في سور عدة. وقد قدّم الله تعالى لها بقوله: (نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ وَإِن كُنتَ مِن قَبْلِهِ لَمِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ) (يوسف 12: 3).

Surah Yusuf is also one of only six surahs in the Quran that carry a Prophet's name directly, alongside Surahs Nuh, Hud, Ibrahim, Yunus, and Muhammad, covered in Which Surahs Are Named After Prophets? Naming an entire surah after Yusuf reflects how completely his story is contained within it.

وسورة يوسف إحدى ست سور فقط في القرآن الكريم سُمّيت باسم نبي، مع سور نوح وهود وإبراهيم ويونس ومحمد، كما بيّنا في جواب: ما السور التي سُمّيت بأسماء الأنبياء؟ وفي تسمية السورة كلها باسم يوسف إشارة إلى أنها حوت قصته كاملة.

The surah follows Yusuf from his brothers' jealousy and betrayal, through his years of trial in Egypt including his imprisonment covered in Which Prophet Was Imprisoned, and Where?, to his eventual reunion with his family. Because the entire arc unfolds within one surah, his name naturally recurs throughout it far more than a prophet whose story is spread across many surahs.

تبدأ قصته في السورة بحسد إخوته وغدرهم به، ثم تمضي إلى سنوات بلائه في مصر، ومنها سجنه، كما بيّنا في جواب: من هو النبي الذي سُجن، وأين كان سجنه؟، وتنتهي باجتماع شمله بأهله. ولأن القصة كلها جاءت في سورة واحدة، تكرر فيها اسمه أكثر مما يتكرر اسم نبي تفرّقت قصته في سور كثيرة.

Surah Yusuf is the twelfth chapter of the Quran, a Makkan surah of 111 verses, revealed before the Prophet Muhammad's migration to Madinah. Its uninterrupted narrative structure, following Yusuf (peace be upon him) continuously from his boyhood dream to his reunion with his family, is part of why his name is repeated so consistently across the surah rather than appearing only in isolated passages.

سورة يوسف هي السورة الثانية عشرة في ترتيب المصحف، وهي مكية، آياتها مئة وإحدى عشرة آية، نزلت قبل هجرة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إلى المدينة. واتصال سردها، إذ تتبع يوسف عليه السلام من رؤياه في صباه إلى اجتماعه بأهله، من أسباب تكرر اسمه فيها على هذا النحو، بدل أن يأتي في مقاطع متفرقة.

Near the story's close, Yusuf instructs his brothers: "Go with this shirt of mine and cast it over my father's face, and he will regain his sight. Then come back to me with your whole family" (Surah Yusuf 12:93). This moment, restoring his father Ya'qub's eyesight, comes near the close of the story, shortly before Yusuf names his family's prostration as the fulfilment of his childhood dream (12:100).
اذْهَبُوا بِقَمِيصِي هَـٰذَا فَأَلْقُوهُ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِ أَبِي يَأْتِ بَصِيرًا وَأْتُونِي بِأَهْلِكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ (سورة يوسف: 93)

وقرب خاتمة القصة قال يوسف عليه السلام لإخوته: (اذْهَبُوا بِقَمِيصِي هَٰذَا فَأَلْقُوهُ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِ أَبِي يَأْتِ بَصِيرًا وَأْتُونِي بِأَهْلِكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ) (يوسف 12: 93). فكان ارتداد البصر إلى أبيه يعقوب عليه السلام قبيل أن يبيّن يوسف أن سجود أهله له هو تأويل رؤياه التي رآها في صباه (يوسف 12: 100).
