Who Is Haroun (Aaron), and Why Did Moses Ask for Him Specifically?
He is the brother of Moses, peace be upon him.
("And my brother Aaron is more eloquent than I, so send him with me as a helper to support what I say, for I truly fear they may reject me.") (Al-Qasas 28:34)
("And grant me a helper from my family, Aaron, my brother.") (Ta-Ha 20:29-30)
1. Requested for a Specific Reason, Not Just Kinship |
Musa did not simply ask for a family member's company; he named the exact quality he needed, Haroun's greater eloquence, and the exact risk he was addressing, being disbelieved by Pharaoh's people. This shows a deliberate recognition of his own limitation and a specific request to complement it, not a general plea for support.
2. Part of a Larger Set of Requests |
Asking for Haroun was one item within a fuller supplication Musa made before setting out, which also included asking Allah to ease his task and loosen a knot in his speech, covered in the meaning of Moses' supplication.
Scholarly Insight: Al-Qasas 28:34 and Ta-Ha 20:29-30 record Moses' request for his brother Haroun as a helper. Read the fuller context in the tafsir of Surah Ta-Ha.
