1. Peace Until the Emergence of Dawn | سلام هي حتى مطلع الفجر
The surah closes: peace it is until the emergence of dawn (97:5). Ibn Kathir reports that Qatada and Ibn Zayd said: it is good throughout, with no evil in it until the rising of dawn; and al-Sha'bi said: it is the angels greeting the people in the mosques on the Night of Decree until dawn breaks.
سَلَامٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ (سورة القدر: 5)
تختم السورة بقوله تعالى: (سلام هي حتى مطلع الفجر) (القدر 97: 5). ونقل ابن كثير عن قتادة وابن زيد قولهما: هي خير كلها، ليس فيها شر إلى مطلع الفجر، وعن الشعبي: تسليم الملائكة ليلة القدر على أهل المساجد حتى يطلع الفجر.
2. Sent Down on the Night of Decree | إنزال القرآن في ليلة القدر
The surah opens: indeed, We sent it down on the Night of Decree (97:1). Ibn Kathir explains that this is the blessed night of 44:3, and that it falls in Ramadan, the month in which the Quran was sent down (2:185). Ibn Abbas and others said: Allah sent the Quran down all at once from the Preserved Tablet to the House of Honour in the lowest heaven, then it came down in parts according to events over twenty-three years.
إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ (سورة القدر: 1)
افتتحت السورة بقوله تعالى: (إنا أنزلناه في ليلة القدر) (القدر 97: 1). وبين ابن كثير أنها الليلة المباركة التي قال الله فيها: (إنا أنزلناه في ليلة مباركة) (الدخان 44: 3)، وهي من شهر رمضان. قال ابن عباس وغيره: أنزل الله القرآن جملة واحدة من اللوح المحفوظ إلى بيت العزة من السماء الدنيا، ثم نزل مفصلا بحسب الوقائع في ثلاث وعشرين سنة.
3. Better Than a Thousand Months | خير من ألف شهر
Allah says: the Night of Decree is better than a thousand months (97:3). The Prophet said: whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and hope of reward will have his past sins forgiven, and whoever stands in prayer on the Night of Decree out of faith and hope of reward will have his past sins forgiven (Sahih al-Bukhari 2014).
لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ (سورة القدر: 3)
قال تعالى: (ليلة القدر خير من ألف شهر) (القدر 97: 3). وقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: "من صام رمضان إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه، ومن قام ليلة القدر إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه" (صحيح البخاري 2014).
