This episode, recorded in Surah Al-Qasas, finds Musa having just fled Egypt as a fugitive, arriving in Midian with no food, no shelter, and no connections. After helping two strangers at a well purely out of kindness, he did not ask them for anything in return, but turned directly to Allah in complete humility, describing himself as "needy" of whatever good Allah would provide.

تصف سورة القصص هذه الحادثة، حين وصل موسى فارا من مصر إلى مدين بلا طعام ولا مأوى ولا معارف. وبعد أن ساعد امرأتين غريبتين بدافع اللطف الخالص، لم يطلب منهما شيئا في المقابل، بل توجه مباشرة إلى الله بتواضع تام، واصفا نفسه بأنه "فقير" إلى أي خير يرزقه الله إياه.

Allah's answer to this prayer follows almost immediately in the same surah: one of the two women he helped returned to bring him to her father, Shu'aib, who offered him both shelter and marriage to his daughter, covered in Who Was Both the Wife of a Prophet and the Daughter of a Prophet? A prayer of pure need was met with provision, security, and family within the same short passage.

تأتي إجابة الله لهذا الدعاء بعد ذلك مباشرة تقريبا في السورة نفسها: عادت إحدى المرأتين اللتين ساعدهما لتأتي به إلى أبيها شعيب، الذي عرض عليه المأوى والزواج من ابنته. دعاء من حاجة خالصة قوبل بالرزق والأمان والأسرة في المقطع القصير نفسه.
