What Prayer Saved Moses and the Believer from Their Enemies' Plots?
The Prophet of Allah Moses, peace be upon him, sought refuge in Allah: "I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant person who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning." (Ghafir 40:27)
As for the believing man, he declared his trust in Allah and entrusted his affairs to Him, so that Allah would protect him from their evil schemes.
("And I entrust my affairs to Allah. Surely Allah is All-Seeing of all His servants.") (Ghafir 40:44) ("So Allah protected him from the evil of their schemes.") (Ghafir 40:45)
1. Two Different Threats, Two Different Prayers |
Moses faced a tyrant directly threatening his life, and his prayer names the specific danger he sought refuge from, arrogant disbelief in accountability itself. The believer faced a quieter danger, a plot forming behind his back among his own people, and his response was not refuge from a named threat but total submission of the outcome to Allah's judgment. The two prayers fit their two different situations exactly.
2. Both Prayers Answered |
The believer's own fuller story, his identity, his sermon defending Moses, and how his plea was answered, is covered in how this believer defended Prophet Moses, while Moses' own confrontation with Pharaoh over the same threat is covered in why Pharaoh decided to kill Moses.
Scholarly Insight: Ghafir 40:27 records Moses' prayer, and Ghafir 40:44-45 records the believer's declaration of trust and its answer. Read the fuller context in the tafsir of Surah Ghafir.
