1. Lineage and Ancestry of Aminah |
The mother of the Prophet was Aminah, daughter of Wahb, chief of the Banu Zuhrah clan of Quraysh. Her grandfather was Abd Manaf ibn Zuhrah, and her paternal lineage converges with that of the Prophet's father at Kilab ibn Murrah.
2. Her Marriage to Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib |
Abdullah, the most beloved son of Abd al-Muttalib, married Aminah in Mecca. Early biographers describe her as the foremost maiden of Quraysh in virtue, modesty, and noble standing.
3. The Blessed Pregnancy and Signs of Light |
According to early biographers, during her pregnancy Aminah experienced no heavy discomfort or fatigue customary to expecting mothers. A hadith in Musnad Ahmad records that she saw a light come from her that illuminated the palaces of Busra in Syria.
4. Her Grief and Devotion to Baby Muhammad |
Before Muhammad's birth, according to most historians, her husband Abdullah passed away in Yathrib. Aminah bore her widowhood with patience, showering her newborn son with maternal love and entrusting him to the desert wet-nurse Halimah for a healthy upbringing.
5. Prophetic Compassion for His Mother |
Prophet Muhammad retained immense tender love for his mother throughout his life. In Sahih Muslim (976), it is recorded that he visited her grave, which other reports place at Al-Abwa, and wept, moving those around him to tears.
