Surah Al-Kawthar is the 108th chapter of the Quran, containing just 3 verses, the shortest chapter in the Quran. Revealed in Makkah, it addresses the Prophet directly, telling him that Allah has granted him Al-Kawthar, abundant good understood by the commentators to include a river in Paradise, and commands him to pray to his Lord and offer sacrifice in gratitude. It closes by affirming that it is the one who hates him who will be the one cut off, without lasting posterity or remembrance. Below you can read the full Surah Al-Kawthar in Arabic with a clear English translation and a verse-by-verse tafsir (explanation of the meaning) from Aysar al-Tafaseer, with the option to jump to any specific verse.

Tafsir of the Verses

{ إِنَّآ أَعْطَيْنَاكَ ٱلْكَوْثَرَ }
{ أَعْطَيْنَاكَ }

Surah Al-Kawthar: Verse 1
1. We have given you abundance and granted you so many favours that there are no means of knowing how numerous they are, even if your enemies should despise and disparage them. (It was also said that the Kawthar is a river in Paradise.) (Ibn Abbas said that it is of the abundant good which Allah bestowed upon His holy Prophet (peace be upon him.)
{ فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنْحَرْ }

Surah Al-Kawthar: Verse 2
2. So devote your worship and prayers to your Lord Alone, and slaughter your offerings in His name, for it is He who cared for you and bestowed upon you His blessings and His favours. (It has been said that the meaning of the verse is as follows: The Prophet performs the prayers of the feast of slaughter and then slaughters his offering.”)
{ إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلأَبْتَرُ }

Surah Al-Kawthar: Verse 3
3. For he who despises you will soon cease to be remembered.
