بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Surah Al-Infitar is the 82nd chapter of the Quran, containing 19 verses. Revealed in Makkah, it takes its name from its opening verse describing the sky splitting open. It describes further cosmic signs of Judgement Day, the stars scattering, the seas bursting forth and the graves overturned, before reminding man of the Generous Lord who created and fashioned him in due proportion, and of the noble recording angels who note down every deed. The surah closes describing the reward of the righteous in bliss and the punishment of the wicked in Hell, on a Day when no soul will have power to help another. Tafsir of the Verses
{ إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنفَطَرَتْ }
(1) – إِذَا انْشَقَّتِ السَّمَاءُ وَتَغَيَّرَ نِظَامُهَا، وَيَكُونَ ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ قِيَامِ السَّاعَةِ، وَخَرَابِ العَالَمِ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 1
1. When the sky is cleft asunder, and its order is changed, then the Day of Judgement and the destruction of the universe have come.
{ وَإِذَا ٱلْكَوَاكِبُ ٱنتَثَرَتْ }
(2) – وَإِذَا تَسَاقَطَتِ الكَوَاكِبُ مُتَبَعْثِرَةً.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 2
2. When the planets fall and are scattered;
{ وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ }
(3) – وَإِذَا تَشَقَّقَتِ البِحَارُ مِنْ جَوَانِبِهَا وَقِيعَانِهَا، فَاخْتَلَطَتْ مِيَاهُ بَعْضِهَا بِبَعْضٍ (أَوْ غَارَتْ وَذَهَبَتْ مِيَاهُهَا).
فُجِّرَتْ – شُقِّقَتْ جَوَانِبُهَا أَوْ غَارَ مَاؤُهَا.
فُجِّرَتْ – شُقِّقَتْ جَوَانِبُهَا أَوْ غَارَ مَاؤُهَا.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 3
3. and when the seas burst at their sides and bottoms, and their water becomes mixed (or the bottoms will cave in and all the water disappear);
{ وَإِذَا ٱلْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ }
(4) – وَإِذَا تَحَرَّكَتِ الأَرْضُ بِالقُبُورِ فَتَبَعْثَرَتْ، وَقُلِبَ تُرَابُهَا، وَخَرَجَ الأَمْوَاتُ مِنْهَا.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 4
4. and when the earth moves, and the graves are scattered, and the soil is turned, and all the dead arise;
{ عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ }
(5) – إِذَا حَصَلَ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يَكُونُ مَوْعِدُ قِيَامِ السَّاعَةِ قَدْ حَانَ، وَحَانَ البَعْثُ وَالحِسَابُ. وَحِينَئِذٍ تَعْلَمُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَا قَدَّمَتْ مِنْ عَمَلٍ وَلَمْ تُقَصِّرْ فِيهِ، وَمَا أَخَّرَتْ مِنْ عَمَلٍ وَتَكَاسَلَتْ عَنْ أَدَائِهِ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 5
5. When all this happens, it is then Judgement Day, the hour of resurrection and account. Then each soul shall know what deeds it advanced and did not neglect doing and what deeds it delayed and was too indolent to carry out.
{ يٰأَيُّهَا ٱلإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ }
{ يٰأَيُّهَا } { ٱلإِنسَانُ }
(6) – يُهَدِّدُ اللهُ تَعَالَى الإِنْسَانَ عَلَى كُفْرِهِ وَعِصْيَانِهِ لِرَبِّهِ، مَعَ أَنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى أَعْطَاهُ العَقْلَ وَالقُدْرَةَ عَلَى التَّمْيِيزِ، وَأَنْعَمَ عَلَيْهِ بِالسَّمْعِ وَالبَصَرِ وَأَظْهَرَ لَهُ الدَّلاَئِلَ وَالحُجَجَ عَلَى وُجُودِ اللهِ وَوَحْدَانِيَّتِهِ، وَيَقُولُ تَعَالَى للإِنْسَانِ: مَا الذِي غَرَّكَ وَجَرَّأَكَ وَحَمَلَكَ عَلَى عِصْيَانِ رَبِّكَ الكَرِيمِ العَظِيمِ، حَتَّى أَقْدَمْتَ عَلَى مَعْصِيَتِهِ، وَقَابَلْتَهُ بِمَا لاَ يَلِيقُ عَلَى فَضْلِهِ وَنِعَمِهِ عَلَيْكَ.
وَوَصَفَ اللهُ تَعَالَى نَفْسَهُ بِالكَرِيمِ تَنْبِيهاً لِلإِنْسَانِ إِلَى أَنَّهُ لاَ يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يُقَابِلَ الكَرِيمَ بِالأَفْعَالِ القَبِيحَةِ.
مَا غَرَّكَ – مَا خَدَعَكَ وَجَرَّأَكَ عَلَى عِصْيَانِ رَبِّكَ.
(6) – يُهَدِّدُ اللهُ تَعَالَى الإِنْسَانَ عَلَى كُفْرِهِ وَعِصْيَانِهِ لِرَبِّهِ، مَعَ أَنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى أَعْطَاهُ العَقْلَ وَالقُدْرَةَ عَلَى التَّمْيِيزِ، وَأَنْعَمَ عَلَيْهِ بِالسَّمْعِ وَالبَصَرِ وَأَظْهَرَ لَهُ الدَّلاَئِلَ وَالحُجَجَ عَلَى وُجُودِ اللهِ وَوَحْدَانِيَّتِهِ، وَيَقُولُ تَعَالَى للإِنْسَانِ: مَا الذِي غَرَّكَ وَجَرَّأَكَ وَحَمَلَكَ عَلَى عِصْيَانِ رَبِّكَ الكَرِيمِ العَظِيمِ، حَتَّى أَقْدَمْتَ عَلَى مَعْصِيَتِهِ، وَقَابَلْتَهُ بِمَا لاَ يَلِيقُ عَلَى فَضْلِهِ وَنِعَمِهِ عَلَيْكَ.
وَوَصَفَ اللهُ تَعَالَى نَفْسَهُ بِالكَرِيمِ تَنْبِيهاً لِلإِنْسَانِ إِلَى أَنَّهُ لاَ يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يُقَابِلَ الكَرِيمَ بِالأَفْعَالِ القَبِيحَةِ.
مَا غَرَّكَ – مَا خَدَعَكَ وَجَرَّأَكَ عَلَى عِصْيَانِ رَبِّكَ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 6
6. Allah Almighty warns man against disbelief in and disobedience of his Lord. For He gave man a mind and the ability to discern, bestowed upon him sight and hearing, and showed him arguments and proof of His Existence and Oneness. Allah Almighty tells man: “What made you haughty and daring and led you to disobey your great generous Lord? You met His kindness to you in a way which was not suitable for His grace and favours upon you.” Allah Almighty describes Himself as generous to draw man’s attention to the fact that he should not meet kindness with evil deeds.
{ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّاكَ فَعَدَلَكَ }
{ فَسَوَّاكَ }
(7) – الذِي خَلَقَكَ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ، ثُمَّ جَعَلَكَ سَوِيّاً مُسْتَقِيماً مُعْتَدِلَ القَامَةِ، مُنْتَصِباً فِي أَحْسَنِ الهَيْئَاتِ وَالأَشْكَالِ.
(7) – الذِي خَلَقَكَ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ، ثُمَّ جَعَلَكَ سَوِيّاً مُسْتَقِيماً مُعْتَدِلَ القَامَةِ، مُنْتَصِباً فِي أَحْسَنِ الهَيْئَاتِ وَالأَشْكَالِ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 7
7. He created you from a sperm, fashioned you into a well-formed, symmetrical person of moderate height, standing straight in the best appearance.
{ فِيۤ أَيِّ صُورَةٍ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ }
(8) – وَهُوَ القَادِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يُرَكِّبَ الإِنْسَانَ وَيُخْرِجَهُ فِي أَيِّ صُورَةٍ شَاءَ، وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَهُ فِي أَحْسَنِ صُورَةٍ، لِذَلِكَ كَانَ خَلِيقاً بِهِ أَنْ يُقَدِّرَ نِعْمَةَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ، وَأَنْ يَسْتَعْمِلَ عَقْلَهُ وَحَواسَّهُ فِي الخَيْرِ، وَفِي فِعْلِ مَا أَمَرَهُ اللهُ بِهِ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 8
8. He is able to put man together in whatever form He wills and He made him in the best of shapes. Therefore it is befitting that he should be grateful for Allah’s favours to him, and that he use his mind and senses in doing good and in doing what Allah has commanded him to.
{ كَلاَّ بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلدِّينِ }
(9) – وَلَكِنَّكُمْ لاَ تَسْتَقِيمُونَ عَلَى مَا تُوجِبُهُ نِعَمُ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتُقَابِلُونَ الحَسَنَةَ وَالفَضْلِ بِالكُفْرَانِ، بَلْ تَجْتَرِئُونَ عََلَى مَا هُوَ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَتُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ، وَهُوَ يَوْمُ الحَشْرِ وَالمَعَادِ، وَتُنْكِرُونَ بَعْثَكُمْ مِنْ قُبُورِكُمْ لِلْحِسَابِ وَالجَزَاءِ.
بِالدِّينِ – بِالحِسَابِ وَالجَزَاءِ.
بِالدِّينِ – بِالحِسَابِ وَالجَزَاءِ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 9
9. However you do not act properly according to what His blessings demand of you: instead of being grateful for Allah’s favours, You meet His charity and grace with disbelief. You even dare to do what is far greater than that by denying the Day of Judgement, the day of resurrection and assembly, and by denying the resuscitation from your graves for judgement and reward.
{ وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَافِظِينَ }
{ لَحَافِظِينَ }
(10) – وَيُنَبِّهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى بَنِي الإِنْسَانِ إِلَى أَنَّ اللهَ جَعَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَلاَئِكَةً حَافِظِينَ يَحْفَظُونَهُمْ بِأَمْرِهِ تَعَالَى.
(10) – وَيُنَبِّهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى بَنِي الإِنْسَانِ إِلَى أَنَّ اللهَ جَعَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَلاَئِكَةً حَافِظِينَ يَحْفَظُونَهُمْ بِأَمْرِهِ تَعَالَى.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 10
10. Allah Almighty draws the son of man’s attention to His having appointed angels to protect him by Allah’s command.
{ كِرَاماً كَاتِبِينَ }
{ كَاتِبِينَ }
(11) – وَهُمْ كِرَامٌ عَلَى اللهِ، أُمَنَاءُ فِيمَا يَكْتُبُونَهُ مِنْ أَعْمَالِ العِبَادِ جَمِيعِهَا مِنْ خَيْرٍ وَشَرٍّ.
(11) – وَهُمْ كِرَامٌ عَلَى اللهِ، أُمَنَاءُ فِيمَا يَكْتُبُونَهُ مِنْ أَعْمَالِ العِبَادِ جَمِيعِهَا مِنْ خَيْرٍ وَشَرٍّ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 11
11. They are dear to Allah, honest in recording down the deeds of men, both good and evil .
{ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ }
(12) – وَهُمْ يُحْصُونَ جَمِيعَ مَا يَفْعَلُهُ العِبَادُ مِنْ خَيرٍ وَشَرٍّ، وَيُثْبِتُونَهُ فِي صَحَائِفِهِمْ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 12
12. They record all that man does, good and evil, in their book of records.
{ إِنَّ ٱلأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ }
(13) – يُخْبِرُ اللهُ تَعَالَى عَنْ حَالِ الخَلاَئِقِ يَوْمَ الحِسَابِ فَيَذْكُرُ أَنَّ الأَبْرَارَ الذِينَ أَطَاعُوا اللهَ، وَاتَّبَعُوا رِضْوَانَهُ، يَصِيرُونَ إِلَى النَّعِيمِ فِي جَنَّاتٍ خَالِدِينَ.
الأَبْرَارَ – الذِينَ بَرُّوا وَصَدَقُوا فِي إِيْمَانِهِمْ.
الأَبْرَارَ – الذِينَ بَرُّوا وَصَدَقُوا فِي إِيْمَانِهِمْ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 13
13. Allah Almighty speaks of the state of all creatures on the Day of Judgement. He says that the charitable who obeyed Allah and followed His pleasure will be eternally in gardens of bliss.
{ وَإِنَّ ٱلْفُجَّارَ لَفِي جَحِيمٍ }
(14) – أَمَّا الكَفَرَةُ الفَجَرَةُ الذِينَ عَصَوا اللهَ، وَغَرَّتْهُم الحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا بِزخْرُفِهَا وَمَبَاهِجِها، فَنَسُوْا رَبَّهُمْ وَمَا أَمَرَهُمْ بِهِ. فَإِنَّهُمْ يَصِيرُونَ إِلَى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 14
14. And the wicked unbelievers who disobeyed Allah, became too involved in the pleasures and ornaments of earthly life and forgot their Lord and His commands to them, will be in Hellfire.
{ يَصْلَوْنَهَا يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ }
(15) – وَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ لِيُقَاسُوا حَرَّهَا وَأَهْوَالَهَا يَوْمَ الحِسَابِ وَالجَزَاءِ. (يَوْمَ الدِّينِ).
يَصْلَوْنَهَا – يَدْخُلُونَهَا أَوْ يُقَاسُونَ حَرَّهَا.
يَصْلَوْنَهَا – يَدْخُلُونَهَا أَوْ يُقَاسُونَ حَرَّهَا.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 15
15. They will enter Hell and suffer its heat and its terrors on the Day of Judgement and Retribution.
{ وَمَا هُمْ عَنْهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ }
{ بِغَآئِبِينَ }
(16) – وَلاَ يَغِيبُونَ عَنِ العَذَابِ فِي الجَحِيمِ سَاعَةً وَاحِدَةً، وَلاَ يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِهَا، وَلاَ يُجَابُونَ إِلَى مَا يَسْأَلُونَ مِنَ المَوْتِ أَوِ الرَّحْمَةِ والرَّاحَةِ وَلَوْ لَحْظَةً مِنَ الزَّمَانِ.
(16) – وَلاَ يَغِيبُونَ عَنِ العَذَابِ فِي الجَحِيمِ سَاعَةً وَاحِدَةً، وَلاَ يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِهَا، وَلاَ يُجَابُونَ إِلَى مَا يَسْأَلُونَ مِنَ المَوْتِ أَوِ الرَّحْمَةِ والرَّاحَةِ وَلَوْ لَحْظَةً مِنَ الزَّمَانِ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 16
16. They will not be spared torture, not even for an hour, nor will their torture be reduced. They will not be granted their request of death or mercy or rest, even if it were only for a little while.
{ وَمَآ أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ }
{ أَدْرَاكَ }
(17) – وَأَشَارَ اللهُ تَعَالَى إِلَى عَظَمَةِ يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ وَهَوْلِهِ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَمْرَ النَّاسِ عَجِيبٌ فَهُمْ سَاهُونَ لاَهُونَ، وَكَانَ خَلِيقاً بِهِمْ أَنْ يَتَّعِظُوا، وَيَتَنَبَّهُوا وَيَتَدَبَّرُوا أَمْرَهُمْ قَبْلَ فَوَاتِ الأَوَانِ، فَإِنَّهُمْ لاَ يُدْرِكُونَ هَوْلَ يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ (يَوْمُ الدِّينِ).
(17) – وَأَشَارَ اللهُ تَعَالَى إِلَى عَظَمَةِ يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ وَهَوْلِهِ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَمْرَ النَّاسِ عَجِيبٌ فَهُمْ سَاهُونَ لاَهُونَ، وَكَانَ خَلِيقاً بِهِمْ أَنْ يَتَّعِظُوا، وَيَتَنَبَّهُوا وَيَتَدَبَّرُوا أَمْرَهُمْ قَبْلَ فَوَاتِ الأَوَانِ، فَإِنَّهُمْ لاَ يُدْرِكُونَ هَوْلَ يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ (يَوْمُ الدِّينِ).
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 17
17. Allah Almighty refers to the greatness of Judgement Day and its terror. He says: “People are strange. They are inattentive and heedless. It would be better for them to learn and gain awareness so they are admonished before it is too late. For, they certainly cannot conceive the terrors of Doomsday.”
{ ثُمَّ مَآ أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ }
{ أَدْرَاكَ }
(18) – ثُمَّ عَادَ تَعَالَى فَكَرَّرَ تَنْبِيهَهُ لِلنَّاسِ إِلَى هَوْلِ يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ الذِي يَجْعَلُ الوِلْدَانَ شِيباً.
(18) – ثُمَّ عَادَ تَعَالَى فَكَرَّرَ تَنْبِيهَهُ لِلنَّاسِ إِلَى هَوْلِ يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ الذِي يَجْعَلُ الوِلْدَانَ شِيباً.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 18
18. Once again, Allah points out to people the terrors of Doomsday which make children grow hoary-headed as mentioned in chapter Al-Muzzammil (Folded in Garments), 17.
{ يَوْمَ لاَ تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌ لِنَفْسٍ شَيْئاً وَٱلأَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلَّهِ }
{ يَوْمَئِذٍ }
(19) – ثُمَّ وَصَفَ اللهُ تَعَالَى يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ بِأَنَّهُ يَوْمٌ لاَ تَسْتَطِيعُ فِيهِ نَفْسٌ أَنْ تَنْفَعَ نَفْساً، وَلاَ أَنْ تَدْفَعَ عَنْهَا، فَكُلُّ امْرِىءٍ مَشْغُولٌ بِمَا هُوَ فِيهِ، وَقَدِ اسْتَأْثَرَ اللهُ بِالأَمْرِ كُلِّهِ، فَإِلَيْهِ تَصْرِيفُ الأُمُورِ فِيهِ، وَإِلَيهِ المَرْجِعُ وَالمَآبُ.
(19) – ثُمَّ وَصَفَ اللهُ تَعَالَى يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ بِأَنَّهُ يَوْمٌ لاَ تَسْتَطِيعُ فِيهِ نَفْسٌ أَنْ تَنْفَعَ نَفْساً، وَلاَ أَنْ تَدْفَعَ عَنْهَا، فَكُلُّ امْرِىءٍ مَشْغُولٌ بِمَا هُوَ فِيهِ، وَقَدِ اسْتَأْثَرَ اللهُ بِالأَمْرِ كُلِّهِ، فَإِلَيْهِ تَصْرِيفُ الأُمُورِ فِيهِ، وَإِلَيهِ المَرْجِعُ وَالمَآبُ.
Surah Al-Infitar: Verse 19
19. Allah Almighty then describes Judgement Day as a day when no soul is able to serve another. Each person will be preoccupied with his own state. Allah Alone will be in command on that day; He will manage and dispose, and all will return to Him.
