Quranic Evidence of Forgiveness
(As for those who repent, mend their ways, and let the truth be known, they are the ones to whom I will turn in forgiveness, for I am the Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful.) [Al-Baqara 2: 160]
(except those who repent, mend their ways, hold fast to Allah, and are sincere in their devotion to Allah; they will be with the believers. And Allah will grant the believers a great reward.) [An-Nisa 4: 146]
(As for those who repent before you seize them, then know that Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.) [Al-Ma'idah 5: 34]
(As for those who commit evil ignorantly or recklessly, then repent afterwards and mend their ways, then your Lord is surely All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.) [An-Nahl 16: 119]
(Say, O Prophet, that Allah says, "O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins. He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.") [Az-Zumar 39: 53]

Scholarly Insight: In Islamic jurisprudence, scholars mention a crucial fourth condition if the sin specifically involves the rights of another human being. For example, if someone stole money, damaged another's property, or harmed someone's reputation, sincere repentance requires not only the three conditions mentioned above between the person and Allah, but also restoring those rights or explicitly seeking the victim's forgiveness. This ensures that the balance of justice is upheld alongside divine mercy.
