How did the conflict start between the two sons of Adam (AS)?
The Holy Quran narrates that the root of the conflict was not the act of sacrifice itself: but the spiritual state of the givers. One son offered his sacrifice with Taqwa (consciousness of Allah): leading to its acceptance. The other: filled with resentment and lacking sincerity: saw his offering rejected. Instead of reflecting on his own shortcomings: he directed his anger toward his brother: initiating a tragic dispute.
Quranic Evidence |
(And recite to them the story of Adam's two sons: in truth: when they both offered a sacrifice [to Allah]: and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter]: "I will surely kill you." Said [the former]: "Indeed: Allah only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].")
Scholarly Insight: Scholars note that the phrase "in truth" (Bil-Haqq) emphasizes that this account is the definitive historical reality. The response of the righteous brother serves as a universal principle: that success and divine acceptance are strictly linked to the purity of intention and piety. This story stands as a warning against the destructive power of envy (Hasad) which blinded the brother from the truth.
