{وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَآءَ ٱللَّهُ حَفِيظٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِوَكِيلٍ}

6. The polytheists who adopted and worshipped idols and statues instead of Allah, Allah Almighty knows their deeds against which He testifies and counts them. He will requite them justly for their evil deeds. You, O Prophet, are not responsible for their conduct, nor are you their representative, so do not grieve for them. Allah Almighty guides to the right path those whom He wants and He leads astray those whom He wants.
{وَكَذَلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ قُرْآناً عَرَبِيّاً لِّتُنذِرَ أُمَّ ٱلْقُرَىٰ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهَا وَتُنذِرَ يَوْمَ ٱلْجَمْعِ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيهِ فَرِيقٌ فِي ٱلْجَنَّةِ وَفَرِيقٌ فِي ٱلسَّعِيرِ}
{قُرْآناً}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 7
7. As we sent revelations to the messengers before you, and sent each to his own people so he may call them to Allah in their own language that they may understand his preaching, thus We have revealed to you a clear Arabic Quran, the mother tongue of your people, so that you may admonish the people of Makkah (“the mother of cities”) and the people around it, and warn them of Allah’s Punishment on Judgement Day, the day that Allah assembles all creatures so that He may call them to account for their deeds. It is a day which there is no shadow of a doubt about which He will requite the unjust unbelievers for the evil sins they committed and they will be the people of the Fire into which they will be thrown. He will compensate the righteous with Paradise.
{وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَهُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَلَـٰكِن يُدْخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِي رَحْمَتِهِ وَٱلظَّالِمُونَ مَا لَهُمْ مِّن وَلِيٍّ وَلاَ نَصِيرٍ}
{وَاحِدَةً} {ٱلظَّالِمُونَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 8
8. If Allah willed, He would have made the people as one nation without any differences. He would have placed them all either on the right path or on the path of perversity; but He made them different. Therefore, He led to the truth those He chose and led astray those He chose: He has wisdom in that. Allah wished that faith should be based on choice, thus a person accepts it of his own free will according to his reasoning and contemplation on the evidence which leads to the straight path. Allah Almighty has prepared for the unbelievers, those who have wronged their souls by not believing, a severe punishment and they will not find anyone to help them against Allah or protect them from His punishment. Therefore, O Mohammad, do not distress yourself and grieve because of their disbelief.
{أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَآءَ فَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلْوَلِيُّ وَهُوَ يُحْيِـي ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 9
9. Allah Almighty condemns the idolaters for worshipping gods instead of Him and He tells His noble Messenger (peace be upon him): “Those idolaters among your people took idols for their gods to seek protection in them and to glorify them; these gods can neither benefit nor harm themselves or those who worship them. If they want a patron-protector to help and protect them against misfortunes and difficulties, they should turn to Allah Almighty, the real patron-protector. No one should worship anyone but Him, for He Alone is able to give life to the dead and has power over everything.
{وَمَا ٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيهِ مِن شَيْءٍ فَحُكْمُهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ذَلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّي عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 10
10. If you have differences of opinion over any matter in your religion, refer the final judgement to Allah for He is a just judge. He judges among the people on Judgement Day in matters of their disagreement. The just ruler is Allah Whom I worship as my Lord without associate. In Him I trust to protect me against the ruses of my enemies and to Him I turn in all my affairs.
{فَاطِرُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلأَرْضِ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجاً وَمِنَ ٱلأَنْعَامِ أَزْواجاً يَذْرَؤُكُمْ فِيهِ لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ}
{ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ} {أَزْوَاجاً} {ٱلأَنْعَامِ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 11
11. For it is He, Allah Almighty, Who is the Creator of the heavens and the earth without previous example. He has favoured His servants by giving them spouses of their own kind to multiply and maintain progeny till the time appointed by Allah. He also gave the cattle partners of the opposite sex, so that life is organized. He made all humans and all creatures generate and multiply through the union between females and males. There is nothing like the Creator of pairs for He is the One and Only, no one is like Him; He hears what His creatures say and He sees what they do.
{لَهُ مَقَالِيدُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلأَرْضِ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ}
{ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 12
12. To Him belong the keys of the treasures of the heavens and the earth. He has the keys to evil and good, He is the Ruler; He does what He wills with His creatures and none can prevent Him from bestowing His Mercy. He increases the sustenance to whomever He wills and He restricts it from whomever He wills. To Him belong the disposition and judgement of all things. He knows all that His servants do and knows who the increase in provision will benefit and who it will corrupt, and knows who the restriction will benefit and who it will corrupt. Therefore, He gives each one accordingly.
{شَرَعَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا وَصَّىٰ بِهِ نُوحاً وَٱلَّذِيۤ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا وَصَّيْنَا بِهِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ أَنْ أَقِيمُواْ ٱلدِّينَ وَلاَ تَتَفَرَّقُواْ فِيهِ كَبُرَ عَلَى ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ مَا تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَيْهِ ٱللَّهُ يَجْتَبِيۤ إِلَيْهِ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِيۤ إِلَيْهِ مَن يُنِيبُ}
{إِبْرَاهِيمَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 13
13. Allah Almighty has indicated to you in matters of religion, the same path that He indicated to Noah and the messengers before him, who brought laws and who had a firm determination. He had given them a certain command which is the base of faith and the source of all laws and would neither differ nor change with time or place such as the belief in Allah Alone without associates, the belief in the Hereafter, in the angels, the Books and messengers. He enjoined them all to establish the religion of monotheism, adhere to it and preserve it from error or confusion, and not to be divided into sects concerning the principles of religion. (But with regards to details, each messenger brought what was suitable for his people and his time. See chapter 5- Al-Ma’ida (The Table Spread), 51: “To each among you have We prescribed a law and way.”) The ones who associated other divinities with Allah, found it difficult to follow the principles of monotheism which you called them to and to abandon their worship of idols which they had inherited from their forefathers. Allah chooses whom He pleases among His Servants to draw them closer to Him and guide them to do righteous deeds and to follow His messengers.

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 14
14. Allah Almighty shows the reasons that led people to divide and dispute about religion, although He had given them all the same command and required that they adopt it and not to divide among themselves over it. He says: “They did not divide until they knew that division led to perversity. They did that out of insolence, envious of leadership, and out of fanaticism. Thus each party follows a sect and calls to it and criticizes and condemns other sects, for appearance and vainglory. But for Allah Almighty’s Word which preceded that He delay their account and judgement for their differences until Resurrection Day, He would have hastened their punishment on earth. Those among their ancestors who inherited the Torah and the Bible are in doubt over their Book, for they did not believe in it with true faith; and they imitate their ancestors without argument or evidence which is why they are in doubt and confusion.

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 15
15. So call the people to establish the true religion that Allah revealed to all the messengers who came before you, O Mohammad. Thus you would have called them to fulfill the unity of religion as Allah revealed it. Persevere, you and your followers, in worshipping Allah and inviting the people to the faith and to the legislation which He instituted just as He commanded you. Do not follow the vain desires of the idolaters who doubted the Truth and worshipped idols. Tell them: “I believe in all the Books revealed to previous prophets: the Torah, the Bible and Abraham’s Book, and I do not deny any of them. My Lord has commanded me to judge and rule with justice among men, and to tell those who fabricate lies: ‘It is Allah whom we should worship, there is no Allah but He. He is our Lord and yours. We believe in Him willingly and by our own free choice. You deny His Divinity, but that will not harm Him for to Him prostrate all those in the heavens and on the earth either willingly or unwillingly. We disavow you and what you do. We will be requited for our deeds and you for yours. No one will bear another man’s sins on Judgement Day. There is no contention between us and no argument for the Truth is evident and there is no need for discussion. Allah Almighty will bring us together on Judgement Day and He will judge fairly our differences on earth. To Him we return and each of us will be requited for his deeds, if good then with good and if evil then with evil.’”
{وَٱلَّذِينَ يُحَآجُّونَ فِي ٱللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مَا ٱسَتُجِيبَ لَهُ حُجَّتُهُمْ دَاحِضَةٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَعَلَيْهِمْ غَضَبٌ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 16
16. The argument of those who dispute with the believers who had answered the call of Allah and His Messenger, is false and useless and it will not be accepted by their Lord. The wrath of Allah will fall on them because they deviated from the Truth after it had become manifest. On Judgement Day they will be severely punished. Ibn Abbas said: “They disputed with the believers after they had believed in Allah and His Messenger, to lead them astray from the true path hoping to bring back the age of ignorance (the Jahiliyya, or pre-Islamic period).”
{ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِيۤ أَنزَلَ ٱلْكِتَابَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَٱلْمِيزَانَ وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَرِيبٌ}
{ٱلْكِتَابَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 17
17. Allah Almighty revealed His Books to His prophets containing irrefutable truth and He sent down justice (“the scale”) to judge fairly among people, without wrong or inequity. The Hour is undeniably coming, and Allah is going to raise the creatures from their graves, to call them to account for their deeds. The Hour may be near but you do not know it. Therefore a sensible person, should not be deceived by life and its adornment, but should work assiduously to prepare for his end to be among the winners.
{يَسْتَعْجِلُ بِهَا ٱلَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهَا وَٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ مُشْفِقُونَ مِنْهَا وَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهَا ٱلْحَقُّ أَلاَ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُمَارُونَ فَي ٱلسَّاعَةِ لَفِي ضَلاَلٍ بَعِيدٍ}
{آمَنُواْ} {ضَلاَلٍ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 18
18. It is said that the holy Messenger spoke of the Hour in the presence of a group of polytheists and they asked him sarcastically: “When is the Hour?” So Allah Almighty revealed this verse and the preceding one. He says: “Those polytheists who do not believe in Allah nor in the Hour, hasten it sarcastically. The believers know that it will be severe and terrible for the unbelievers. Therefore, they fear their Lord, believe in the Hour and in its arrival and are full of dread lest they have neglected their duties in obeying their Lord and therefore be victims of its horrors as a result. Those who doubt the Hour and argue about its existence have clearly strayed from the straight path and have distanced themselves from the truth.
{ٱللَّهُ لَطِيفٌ بِعِبَادِهِ يَرْزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَهُوَ ٱلْقَوِيُّ ٱلْعَزِيزُ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 19
19. Allah Almighty says that He treats both His good and evil servants gently. He increases the provision for whomever He pleases and He drives away distress from whomever He wills. He is the All-Powerful and Invincible.
{مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرْثَ ٱلآخِرَةِ نَزِدْ لَهُ فِي حَرْثِهِ وَمَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرْثَ ٱلدُّنْيَا نُؤْتِهِ مِنْهَا وَمَا لَهُ فِي ٱلآخِرَةِ مِن نَّصِيبٍ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 20
20. He who seeks the reward of the Hereafter and the satisfaction of his Lord through his good deeds, Allah will lead him to good deeds and will compensate the good from ten to seven hundred fold. He who desires through his deeds this life and all its pleasures and ornaments, Allah Almighty will give him his share of it and in the Hereafter he will have no reward. For deeds are measured by intentions, and each will be compensated according to his intention. (It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah recited this verse and then said: “Allah Almighty said: O son of Adam! If you devote yourself to worship Me, I will fill your heart with fortune and let you overcome poverty; otherwise, I will fill your heart with worries and will not deliver you from poverty.’” (Related by al-Hakem and al-Baihaki as recited by Abu-Huraira)).
{أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ شَرَعُواْ لَهُمْ مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَن بِهِ ٱللَّهُ وَلَوْلاَ كَلِمَةُ ٱلْفَصْلِ لَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّالِمِينَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ}
{شُرَكَاءُ} {ٱلظَّالِمِينَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 21
21. They do not follow the true religion that Allah has established for them, but they follow what their devils among jinn and man established. They forbid to themselves what their devils forbade such as the baha’er, wasa’el and sawa’eb (see chapter 5- Al-Ma’ida (The Table Spread), 103) and allowed them to eat the flesh of dead animals and blood, and to gamble and deny the resurrection and the judgement. Had it not been that Allah Almighty preordained that He would postpone their punishment until the Day of Account, He would have hastened to punish them. Those who did themselves wrong to follow a law which Allah did not authorize will have a grievous punishment in the Hereafter.
{تَرَى ٱلظَّالِمِينَ مُشْفِقِينَ مِمَّا كَسَبُواْ وَهُوَ وَاقِعٌ بِهِمْ وَٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّالِحَاتِ فِي رَوْضَاتِ ٱلْجَنَّاتِ لَهُمْ مَّا يَشَآءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ذَلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَضْلُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ}
{ٱلظَّالِمِينَ} {آمَنُواْ} {ٱلصَّالِحَاتِ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 22
22. On Judgement Day, you will see the wrong-doers in fear of the just punishment they have merited for the evil they did. This punishment will undeniably take place. But those who believed in Allah and obeyed Him in what He commanded and banned, will dwell in the meadows of the Gardens, safe from fear and grief, and enjoy its beauty and receive all the pleasures and enjoyment they wish for. This blessing that their Lord has given them is the generous favour which every soul aspires to.
{ذَلِكَ الَّذِي يُبَشِّرُ اللَّهُ عِبَادَهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَى وَمَنْ يَقْتَرِفْ حَسَنَةً نَزِدْ لَهُ فِيهَا حُسْنًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 23
23. That which Allah told you that He has prepared for the believers who did good deeds in the Hereafter is the glad tidings that Allah Almighty wants to announce to them in this life to assure them that it is undeniably true. O Mohammad! Tell those polytheists: “I do not ask a reward or a fee for proclaiming the messages of my Lord to you, or for inviting you to follow the true religion from Allah that I call you to, or for the good news concerning the Hereafter, but I do ask of you to let me convey my Lord’s message to you and not to harm me for the sake of the kinship between us.” (Ibn Abbas said that the verse means: “Do not harm me for the sake of the ties of kinship between us which you should maintain.”) He who does a deed of obedience to Allah and His Messenger, We will give him an increase of good and reward him from ten to seven hundred fold its worth. This is a favour and Mercy from Allah Almighty, for He forgives many of the evil deeds and multiplies the good deeds. He conceals, forgives, multiplies and is thankful.
{أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِباً فَإِن يَشَإِ ٱللَّهُ يَخْتِمْ عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ وَيَمْحُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْبَاطِلَ وَيُحِقُّ ٱلْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَاتِهِ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ}
{يَشَإِ} {ٱلْبَاطِلَ} {بِكَلِمَاتِهِ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 24
24. Do those polytheists say that Mohammad has forged the Quran and attributed it to his Lord in falsehood and that Allah has revealed it to him, although they know that Allah did not reveal anything to him? What they say is untrue, for Allah would not allow anyone to claim that he had revealed anything to him falsely. Allah Almighty is capable of sealing up his heart so that he could not utter any words from the Quran, or reveal the falsehood that he brought and annul it, and reveal the Truth and strengthen it. Mohammad’s thoughts are not concealed from Him, for He knows what the hearts hide.
{وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي يَقْبَلُ ٱلتَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِهِ وَيَعْفُواْ عَنِ ٱلسَّيِّئَاتِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ}
{يَعْفُواْ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 25
25. Allah Almighty reminds His servants of His favours. Through His generosity and forbearance He accepts their repentance in the future if they repent and return to Him. He forgives them for their past evil deeds. He knows all that they say and do.
{وَيَسْتَجِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّالِحَاتِ وَيَزِيدُهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِ وَٱلْكَافِرُونَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ}
{آمَنُواْ} {ٱلصَّالِحَاتِ} {ٱلْكَافِرُونَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 26
26. Those who believe, do good deeds and respond to their Lord’s call, He will give them more generosity than they had asked for when they invoke Him. But the unbelievers will have a severe punishment on the Day of Account, and Allah Almighty does not answer their prayers. (See chapter 13- Al-Ra’d (Thunder), 14: “But the prayer of those without faith is nothing but futile wandering in the mind.”) (It was said that another meaning for this verse is as follows: Allah Almighty answers the prayers of those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, if they pray to Him.)
{وَلَوْ بَسَطَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِعِبَادِهِ لَبَغَوْاْ فِي ٱلأَرْضِ وَلَـٰكِن يُنَزِّلُ بِقَدَرٍ مَّا يَشَآءُ إِنَّهُ بِعِبَادِهِ خَبِيرٌ بَصِيرٌ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 27
27. If Allah Almighty accorded His servants provisions greater than their needs, that would urge them to transgress beyond all bounds and abuse one another from sheer vice and excess. But He gives them what is necessary for their good for He knows best their situation. Thus he who deserves to be rich He sends him wealth and he who deserves to be poor He impoverishes him, according to what He finds to be to the best of the interests of His servants.
{وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُنَزِّلُ ٱلْغَيْثَ مِن بَعْدِ مَا قَنَطُواْ وَيَنشُرُ رَحْمَتَهُ وَهُوَ ٱلْوَلِيُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 28
28. It is Allah Almighty who sends down the rain from the sky to save the people after they have despaired and when they most need it. It is He who distributes the blessings of the rain and its benefits, and it is He who protects the servants with His beneficence. Thus it is He Who is worthy of thanks for the mercy He endows on His servants.
{وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ خَلْقُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلأَرْضِ وَمَا بَثَّ فِيهِمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ جَمْعِهِمْ إِذَا يَشَآءُ قَدِيرٌ}
{آيَاتِهِ} {ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 29
29. Among the signs of His Greatness and Power is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the living creatures that walk and move. He will gather them all on Judgement Day and call them to account to judge among them with justice. He is capable of gathering them and judging them.
{وَمَآ أَصَـٰبَكُمْ مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُواْ عَن كَثِيرٍ}
{أَصَابَكُمْ} {يَعْفُواْ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 30
30. Whatever misfortune befalls you in this life is the consequence and penalty for the sins and evil deeds you committed. What Allah has forgiven you for in this life, He will not punish you for in the Hereafter for Allah is All-Merciful and is purified of all injustice.
{وَمَآ أَنتُمْ بِمُعْجِزِينَ فِي ٱلأَرْضِ وَمَا لَكُمْ مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلاَ نَصِيرٍ}
Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 31
31. O men! You are incapable of escaping Allah wherever you are. You cannot run away from Him on earth and escape His punishment. He is capable of punishing you at any time. And you have no one besides Allah to protect you if He wishes to harm you or a supporter to help you if He punishes you.
{وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ ٱلْجَوَارِ فِي ٱلْبَحْرِ كَٱلأَعْلاَمِ}
{آيَاتِهِ} {كَٱلأَعْلاَمِ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 32
32. Among the signs of His Might, is the subjection of the sea to allow the ships to traverse it, by His command, like tall mountains.
{إِن يَشَأْ يُسْكِنِ ٱلرِّيحَ فَيَظْلَلْنَ رَوَاكِدَ عَلَىٰ ظَهْرِهِ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لآيَاتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ}
{لآيَاتٍ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 33
33. If Allah Almighty wished, He would still the wind that moves the ships in the sea, in which case the wind would become motionless and the ships becalmed. That the ships sail in the sea with the force of the winds, and that they are becalmed when the wind is still are signs for anyone endowed with patience to obey Allah by thanking Him for all His blessings.
{أَوْ يُوبِقْهُنَّ بِمَا كَسَبُوا وَيَعْفُ عَن كَثِيرٍ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 34
34. If Allah Almighty wished, He would make the winds powerful causing the ships to drown, or to be driven away from their route; thus, the ships would sail in the seas without destination, as if they were in flight. That is the punishment for those on board for the evil deeds and sins they committed. But Allah Almighty forgives many evil deeds that His servants commit, for if He penalized them for every sin they committed, He would destroy whoever sailed the sea.
{وَيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَادِلُونَ فِيۤ آيَاتِنَا مَا لَهُمْ مِّن مَّحِيصٍ}
{يُجَادِلُونَ} {آيَاتِنَا}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 35
35. Let those who dispute Allah Almighty’s signs and deny them, know that they are under Allah’s authority. They have no escape from His wrath and revenge.
{فَمَآ أُوتِيتُمْ مِّن شَيْءٍ فَمَتَاعُ ٱلْحَيَاةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ}
{فَمَتَاعُ} {ٱلْحَيَاةِ} {آمَنُواْ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 36
36. All the wealth, children, furniture, clothing and blessings that you gained in this life, are trivial delights you enjoy in this temporary life; but the reward in the Hereafter reserved by Allah is far better than this for it is eternal and does not cease. Allah Almighty has promised those who believe in Him and His messengers, place their trust in their Lord and rely on Him that He will help them to be patient in carrying out their duties.
{وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ ٱلإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَاحِشَ وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُواْ هُمْ يَغْفِرُونَ}
{كَبَائِرَ} {ٱلْفَوَاحِشَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 37
37. Allah Almighty describes the believers for whom He has prepared a reward and Paradise in the following verses: “They are those who avoid the greater sins such as killing, adultery and theft, and avoid indecencies of speech and deeds; and when they are angry, they conceal their ire and pardon the one who caused their anger.”
{وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُواْ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلاَةَ وَأَمْرُهُمْ شُورَىٰ بَيْنَهُمْ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ}
{ٱلصَّلاَةَ} {رَزَقْنَاهُمْ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 38
38. Those who responded to their gracious Lord when He called them to believe in Him alone, obey His commands, and restrain themselves from what He prohibited, and establish their prayers properly at their set times, and fulfill them piously by kneeling and prostrating themselves. They do not make decisions on any matter until they have consulted one another, and after each has given his opinion, so that the just decision is evident as is the different aspects of the matter. Thus the affairs of the Muslims do not suffer due to a tyrannical opinionated group imposing its decision. And they expend of what Allah has given them in the cause of good and charity for the benefit of the community.
{وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلْبَغْيُ هُمْ يَنتَصِرُونَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 39
39. They are those who, when they are attacked by an evil aggressor, defend themselves without even submitting. They are proud, dignified and powerful They are neither weak nor abject. They are capable of repelling the wrong and aggression, but they pardon when they can.
{وَجَزَآءُ سَيِّئَةٍ سَيِّئَةٌ مِّثْلُهَا فَمَنْ عَفَا وَأَصْلَحَ فَأَجْرُهُ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لاَ يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّالِمِينَ}
{جَزَآءُ} {ٱلظَّالِمِينَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 40
40. The retribution for the evil deed done by anyone is that he punishes according to Allah’s law. Allah calls it the punishment ‘evil’ for it harms whoever it is inflicted on. He who forgives an offender and comes to a reconciliation with the one who has acted with hostility toward him by pardoning him for his hostility, Allah will reward him generously. Allah does not like those who wrong themselves or those who transgress the limits and assault the servants of Allah.
{وَلَمَنِ ٱنتَصَرَ بَعْدَ ظُلْمِهِ فَأُوْلَـٰئِكَ مَا عَلَيْهِمْ مِّن سَبِيلٍ}
{فَأُوْلَـٰئِكَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 41
41. The aggressor should not affront those who seek assistance against him after having been harmed by him because they did not wrong him but only defended themselves justly against his injustice. He who recovers his rights from someone who owes them to him without taking more than what is due him, harms no one and no one has any right to blame him.
{إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَظْلِمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَيَبْغُونَ فِي ٱلأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ أُوْلَـٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ}
{أُوْلَـٰئِكَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 42
42. Fault and blame fall on those who initiate inequity, are excessive in their revenge, go beyond their rights, wax arrogant on earth and cause corruption. For them there is a severe punishment for their prevarication and iniquity.
{وَلَمَن صَبَرَ وَغَفَرَ إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَمِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلأُمُورِ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 43
43. After Allah Almighty has condemned injustice and legitimized the sanction of the unjust, He encourages people to forgive if that does not establish corruption on earth. Allah Almighty says: “Enduring harm, forgiving a wrong and concealing it are praiseworthy acts which Allah compensates its doers for. It is the duty of any sensible human.” (Allah’s Messenger said to Abu Bakr: “O Abu Bakr! Three things are completely right: Whoever is wronged by a misdeed and disregards it Allah honours and helps him. Whoever hastens to give a donation seeking to observe kinship by it, Allah will shower him with plenty as a result. And whoever opens the door of begging seeking by it to increase his wealth, Allah will degrade him by increasing his want.” (Reported by Ahmad as cited by Abu Huraira).
{وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُ مِن وَلِيٍّ مِّن بَعْدِهِ وَتَرَى ٱلظَّالِمِينَ لَمَّا رَأَوُاْ ٱلْعَذَابَ يَقُولُونَ هَلْ إِلَىٰ مَرَدٍّ مِّن سَبِيلٍ}
{ٱلظَّالِمِينَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 44
44. Allah Almighty talks about His noble Self. If He predestines a matter then none can prevent His order from being accomplished. He whom Allah Almighty leads astray none can lead to the right path but Allah. Then Allah Almighty informs the unbelievers, those who do injustice to themselves through their disbelief, that when they see the punishment on the Day of Account, they will want to return to life on earth to do righteous deeds, unlike the deeds that they had done before, and to believe and obey the holy prophet. They will say: “Is there any way to return to life and do righteous deeds contrary to those we did before?”

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 45
45. Those polytheist unbelievers will be exposed to the Fire on the Day of Account. They are miserable in their humility due to the greatness of their sins on earth. They look at the Fire furtively and know that they will be thrown into it. The believers will say on that critical day: “They are the losers; those who will go to the Fire; it will make them forget the pleasures of their life on earth, and it will separate them from their friends and from those they love, and they will therefore lose them.” The unbelievers are in an everlasting torment which is neither discontinued nor decreased.
{وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنْ أَوْلِيَآءَ يَنصُرُونَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُ مِن سَبِيلٍ}
Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 46
46. The unbelievers who are unjust to themselves will not find anyone to protect or help them from Allah’s torment that will descend on them. For he whom Allah leaves to stray, will not find no way to lead them to the Truth or the straight path in life and no way to Paradise in the Hereafter.
{اسْتَجِيبُوا لِرَبِّكُمْ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ يَوْمٌ لَا مَرَدَّ لَهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ مَلْجَإٍ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَمَا لَكُمْ مِنْ نَكِيرٍ}
(47) – [Tafsir not available in the source document for this verse; to be added.]
Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 47
47. After Allah Almighty has reminded His servants of the terror and terrible things on the Day of Judgement, He warns them of it and urges them to prepare for it and says: “Respond to the call of the Messenger of Allah. Believe and follow him and believe in what he has brought to you from Allah, your Lord, before the Day of Account comes when you are unaware. That Day is surely coming and no one can prevent it if Allah wills it. On that Day, there will be no place for you to seek refuge from Allah’s punishment, and you cannot deny the crimes and sins you committed on earth. All that is written in your Book of records, and if you deny them, Allah will make your skin, hearing and sight witness against you. (It is said also that the meaning is: The wrong-doers will find no protector to save them from the severe punishment.) ( It is also said that the meaning is: There is nowhere to hide or disguise yourselves from Allah’s Sight).
{فَإِنْ أَعْرَضُواْ فَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَاكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظاً إِنْ عَلَيْكَ إِلاَّ ٱلْبَلاَغُ وَإِنَّآ إِذَآ أَذَقْنَا ٱلإِنسَانَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةً فَرِحَ بِهَا وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ فَإِنَّ ٱلإِنسَانَ كَفُورٌ}
{أَرْسَلْنَاكَ} {ٱلْبَلاَغُ} {ٱلإِنسَانَ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 48
48. If the polytheists turn away from the Truth you have brought to them, and they do not respond to you, then leave them alone. For We have sent you to convey to them the religion and the Quran which We revealed to you. We did not send you as a guardian over them to count their actions and to record them. If We bestow a mercy upon man from Us, and a blessing and provision, he is happy and pleased with it; but when some mishap befalls him, such as poverty or an illness on account of his evil deeds, he is ungrateful to Our blessings and despairs. Ingratitude and the rejection of blessings are part man’s nature.
{لِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلأَرْضِ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ يَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ إِنَاثاً وَيَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ٱلذُّكُورَ}
{ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ} {إِنَاثاً}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 49
49. Allah Almighty is the Creator of heavens and the earth, and He is their Master and Governor. He favours whom He wishes and deprives whom He wishes. None can contest His judgement and ordainment, they are irreversible. He bestows female progeny upon whom He will and male progeny upon whom He will.
{أَوْ يُزَوِّجُهُمْ ذُكْرَاناً وَإِنَاثاً وَيَجْعَلُ مَن يَشَآءُ عَقِيماً إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ قَدِيرٌ}
{إِنَاثاً}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 50
50. Or He bestows female and male progeny upon whom He wills and He leaves barren without offspring whom He will. He knows what each deserves. He is able to create whatever He wants, and what He does is done with knowledge and wisdom.
{وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُكَلِّمَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلاَّ وَحْياً أَوْ مِن وَرَآءِ حِجَابٍ أَوْ يُرْسِلَ رَسُولاً فَيُوحِيَ بِإِذْنِهِ مَا يَشَآءُ إِنَّهُ عَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ}
{وَرَآءِ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 51
51. Allah Almighty shows in this verse the methods by which He reveals His commands to whomever He chooses among His servants:
a- The messenger senses that words are being flung into his heart and he has no doubt that they are from Allah Almighty. An example of this is what the Messenger of Allah said: “The Holy Spirit whispers to my heart that no soul shall die unless it has received what was destined for it in terms of sustenance and years of life. So fear Allah and be moderate in your request. (An authentic Hadith reported by Ibn Habban)
b- Or he dreams a dream which he knows without doubt has come from Allah Almighty as in Abraham’s dream that he killed his son.
c- He hears a speech from behind a barrier as Moses heard when he was in the valley of Tur. He did not see who was speaking to him.
d- Allah Almighty sends an angel to His prophet to reveal to him what He wishes.
Allah Almighty is Invincible and above His servants. He does everything with knowledge and wisdom.

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 52
52. Just as Allah Almighty sent revelations to the messengers before you, O Mohammad, He revealed the Quran to you. Before the revelation was sent to you, you did not know what the Quran was nor what was the law in which there is guidance for mankind. But Allah Almighty revealed the Quran to you and made it a light by which the servants He wishes to guide are guided. And you, O Mohammad, will guide with that light which is sent to you by your Lord whomever Allah wishes you to guide.
{صِرَاطِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِي لَهُ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلأَرْضِ أَلاَ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَصِيرُ ٱلأُمُورُ}
{صِرَاطِ} {ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ}

Surah Ash-Shura: Verse 53
53. And this Quran is the straight path that Allah guides His Servants to. It is the path of Allah, Master of the heavens and the earth which are under His disposition. He is the Ruler whose judgment is incontestable. All the affairs of the creatures return to Allah Almighty on Judgement Day and He judges them with His perfect justice and wisdom.
