Surah Al Fatihah (The Opening Chapter)
7 Verses
The opening chapter is named ‘the mother of books’ because it contains both succintly and by insinuation the aims of the Koran, notably the fact that Allah is one, and the promise of reward to believers who do good deeds and a warning to the unbelievers who do evil. It indicates the way to happiness in both this world and the next and tells stories of those who obeyed their Lord and were recompensed and those who disobeyed and were punished.

{ بِسمِ ٱلله الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ }
Surah Al Fatihah: Verse 1
1. In the name of Allah who is the only One to be worshipped in truth, the Perfect who is purified of all imperfection, the Merciful who bestows His gifts and favours on His creatures in a general or a particular way. His mercy is everlasting.
{ ٱلْحَمْدُ للَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ }
Surah Al Fatihah: Verse 2
2. Beautiful praises of all kinds and in all circumstances are to Allah alone. We praise Him because He is the Creator and the Master of the Universe.
{ ٱلرَّحْمـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ }
Surah Al Fatihah: Verse 3
3. He is the Merciful and the source of perpetual clemency. He bestows His grace whether great or small on His creatures.
{ مَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ }
Surah Al Fatihah: Verse 4
4. He is the absolute Ruler on Judgement Day, the day of reward and punishment. On that day He is the only Master. No one shares His sovereignty.
{ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ }
Surah Al Fatihah: Verse 5
5. We worship You alone, O lord. We implore none other for succour and blessing.
{ ٱهْدِنَا ٱلصِّرَاطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ }
Surah Al Fatihah: Verse 6
6. We ask You to help us follow the path of truth, good and happiness. It is the straight path leading to You.
{ صِرَاطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِم وَلاَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ }
Surah Al Fatihah: Verse 7
7. It is the path of those servants whom You have favoured with the belief in You, and on whom You bestowed Your guidance and Your satisfaction. It is not the path of those who deserve Your anger, those who strayed from the true path because they disbelieved in You and refused to follow Your guidance.
