بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Surah Al-Asr is the 103rd chapter of the Quran, containing 3 verses. Revealed in Makkah, it is one of the shortest yet most comprehensive chapters, swearing by time itself and affirming that all mankind is in loss, except for those who believe, do righteous deeds, and enjoin one another to truth and enjoin one another to patience. Tafsir of the Verses
{ وَٱلْعَصْرِ }
(1) – يُقْسِمُ اللهُ تَعَالَى بِالدَّهْرِ لِمَا فِيهِ مِنْ أَحْدَاثٍ وَعِبَرٍ يُسْتَدَلُّ بِهَا عَلَى قُدْرَةِ اللهِ وَعِلْمِهِ وَحِكْمَتِهِ.
Surah Al-Asr: Verse 1
1. Allah Almighty swears by time for all the events and lessons in it, which point to Allah’s might, knowledge, and wisdom.
{ إِنَّ ٱلإِنسَانَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ }
{ ٱلإِنسَانَ }
(2) – إِنَّ الإِنْسَانَ لَخَاسِرٌ فِي أَعْمَالِهِ. وَأَعْمَالُهُ مَصْدَرُ شَقَائِهِ، وَهِيَ التِي تُوقِعُهُ فِي الهَلاَكِ (وَهَذَا هُوَ جَوَابُ القَسَمِ).
خُسْرٌ – نُقْصَانٌ وَخَسَارَةٌ وَهَلَكَةٌ.
(2) – إِنَّ الإِنْسَانَ لَخَاسِرٌ فِي أَعْمَالِهِ. وَأَعْمَالُهُ مَصْدَرُ شَقَائِهِ، وَهِيَ التِي تُوقِعُهُ فِي الهَلاَكِ (وَهَذَا هُوَ جَوَابُ القَسَمِ).
خُسْرٌ – نُقْصَانٌ وَخَسَارَةٌ وَهَلَكَةٌ.
Surah Al-Asr: Verse 2
2. Man is surely on the way to loss for his deeds, which are a source of his misery and which will lead him to destruction (this is the answer to the oath).
{ إِلاَّ ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْاْ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْاْ بِٱلصَّبْرِ }
{ آمَنُواْ } { ٱلصَّالِحَاتِ }
(3) – قَالَ تَعَالَى: إِنَّ بَنِي الإِنْسَانِ خَاسِرُونَ فِي أَعْمَالِهِمْ إِلاَّ الذِينَ اعْتَقَدُوا اعْتِقَاداً صَحِيحاً بِوُجُودِ اللهِ وَوَحْدَانِيتِهِ، وَبِمَا أَنْزِلَ مِنَ الكُتُبِ عَلَى رُسُلِهِ الكِرَامِ ثُمَّ عَمِلُوا أَعْمَالاً صَالِحَةً تُرْضِي اللهَ، وَاجْتَنَبُوا مَا حَرَّمَ اللهُ وَأَوْصَى بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضاً بِالصَّبْرِ عَنِ المَعَاصِي التِي تَشْتَاقُ إِلَيهَا النُّفُوسُ الضَّعِيفَةُ، وَبِالصَّبْرِ عَلَى فِعْلِ الطَّاعَاتِ التِي يَشُقُّ عَلَى النُّفُوسِ القِيَامُ بِهَا.. فَهؤُلاَءِ المُسْتَثْنَوْنَ هُمُ الرَّابِحُونَ الفَائِزُونَ.
تَواصَوا – أَوْصَى بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضاً بِفِعْلِ الخَيْرِ.
(3) – قَالَ تَعَالَى: إِنَّ بَنِي الإِنْسَانِ خَاسِرُونَ فِي أَعْمَالِهِمْ إِلاَّ الذِينَ اعْتَقَدُوا اعْتِقَاداً صَحِيحاً بِوُجُودِ اللهِ وَوَحْدَانِيتِهِ، وَبِمَا أَنْزِلَ مِنَ الكُتُبِ عَلَى رُسُلِهِ الكِرَامِ ثُمَّ عَمِلُوا أَعْمَالاً صَالِحَةً تُرْضِي اللهَ، وَاجْتَنَبُوا مَا حَرَّمَ اللهُ وَأَوْصَى بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضاً بِالصَّبْرِ عَنِ المَعَاصِي التِي تَشْتَاقُ إِلَيهَا النُّفُوسُ الضَّعِيفَةُ، وَبِالصَّبْرِ عَلَى فِعْلِ الطَّاعَاتِ التِي يَشُقُّ عَلَى النُّفُوسِ القِيَامُ بِهَا.. فَهؤُلاَءِ المُسْتَثْنَوْنَ هُمُ الرَّابِحُونَ الفَائِزُونَ.
تَواصَوا – أَوْصَى بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضاً بِفِعْلِ الخَيْرِ.

3. Allah Almighty said: “The children of men are losers as a result of their deeds except those who believed sincerely in the existence of Allah and His Oneness and in the Books He revealed to His noble messengers, did good deeds which satisfy Allah, avoided what Allah Almighty has prohibited and counselled one another to patiently shun the forbidden things which are a temptation to weak spirits and persevere in obeying Allah to carry out deeds which are difficult for the soul. Those who are excepted are the winners.
