Why didn't the Almighty decree for man to enter Paradise without account or torment?
Due to Allah's Favor upon man: He has created him of the best stature: made him honored among other creations and distinguished him from them by His reason. Since man is privileged with many characteristics that no other creature has: and to whom the creations are subjected: it is appropriate that he is tested and tried.
The Wisdom of the Trial |
1. Human Dignity and Reason
(Indeed, We have dignified the children of Adam)
2. The Subjection of the Universe
(He also subjected for you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth: all by His grace.) [Al-Jathiya 45:13]
(and has lavished His favours upon you, both seen and unseen) [Luqman 31: 20]
3. The Purpose of Life and Death
(He is the One Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving.) [Al-Mulk 67:13]
4. Divine Justice Between People
And since man is tested and tried: it is unfair to have the obedient and disobedient treated equally as the Almighty says: (Should We then treat those who have submitted like the wicked?) [Al-Qalam 68:35]
(Those blind to the truth and those who can see are not equal, nor are those who believe and do good equal to those who do evil. Yet you are hardly mindful.) [Ghafir 40:58]
Scholarly Insight: Accountability in the Holy Quran is presented not as a burden: but as a profound acknowledgment of human intellect and free will. Scholars of Islamic Creed explain that a world without a Day of Judgment would equate the oppressor with the oppressed: and the righteous with the wicked. Because Allah has honored humanity with reason (Aql) and subjected the universe for our use: it naturally follows that this elevated status comes with responsibility. Thus: the concept of accountability is the ultimate manifestation of Allah's perfect justice and wisdom.
Frequently Asked Questions |
Why is humanity subjected to a trial while other creations are not?
Mankind is tested because Allah has uniquely favored human beings: creating them in the best stature: distinguishing them with reason: and subjecting the rest of the universe to serve them. These special privileges make it appropriate that they undergo a trial.
Why must there be a day of account and consequences instead of immediate entry into Paradise?
Because life is a test of deeds. It would be entirely unfair and against divine justice to treat the obedient who submit to Allah equally with the wicked and disobedient. The Holy Quran explicitly states that those who do good are not equal to those who do evil.
