Which Surah in the Quran does not start with the Basmala?
ما هي السورة الوحيدة التي لا تبدأ بالبسملة؟
Surah At-Tawbah (Chapter 9) is the only Surah in the Holy Quran that does not begin with the Basmala (Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim).
سورة التوبة (الجزء التاسع) هي السورة الوحيدة في القرآن الكريم التي لا تبدأ بالبسملة "بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم".
While every other Surah in the Quran opens with "In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful," Surah At-Tawbah begins directly with a declaration of dissociation (Bara'ah).
Why is there no Basmala? Scholars provide two primary reasons:
1. The Surah contains stern warnings and a declaration of war against those who broke their treaties, which contrasts with the themes of "Mercy" and "Grace" found in the Basmala.
2. It is considered by some companions to be a continuation of the previous Surah, Al-Anfal.
