He proved that in two ways:
First: Ibrahim pbuh broke their statues. The people had a celebration so they all went out, and Ibrahim pbuh told them “I am really sick” and couldn’t go with them. He looked at the stars pretending he had seen signs from the stars that he was going to get the plague. “I am really sick” he said. His people were fortune-tellers. They used to turn to the stars and pretend that they can predict the future – good and evil. So he made them believe that he turned to the stars to foresee the future and so they left him alone.
So when he was alone with their gods with no guards or worshippers, and visitors of the gods in their own lobby he put many kinds of foods in front of them; the food and sweets left by the polytheists to be blessed by the gods and then eaten with hope of their blessing
He said to the gods mockingly: “Will you not eat ˹your offerings˺?,” and he offered them food, so they didn’t answer and didn’t eat, of course.
He said, “ What is wrong with you that you cannot speak?” “, and then he hit them with an axe with his right hand, and he broke them into little pieces.
. When they came back from their feast in the evening and came to the gods to take food, they found the gods broken.
“. Later, his people came rushing towards him ˹furiously˺” in a rush and asked their men to bring him immediately, so they brought him and tried him, and he said in his defense “How can you worship what you carve ˹with your own hands˺, some you made from stone, wood, others from silver and gold. (when it is Allah Who created you and whatever you do?” so why don’t you worship Allah and instead you worship idols that do not benefit you, nor harm and when they were defeated in the argument and defeated in front of him, they ordered them to burn it with fire.
One of his arguments is to say to them, “Do they hear you pray”: that is, if you call them “or benefit you” if you ask them for benefit “or harm” if you ask them to harm someone you want to harm?
They replied, “No, no, no. “We found our fathers as well as they did,” he said, “and we did the same for them and in their own way.
Then Ibrahim pbuh remembered his Lord, praised Him, and glorified Him while they were listening to remind those ignorant polytheists of Allah.
And he said: “˹He is˺ the One Who created me, and He ˹alone˺ guides me.” To the path of deliverance and my happiness, by showing me what He approves on so I perform them, and what He Loathes so I refrain from doing.
”He is˺ the One Who provides me with food and drink.” So it is He (Allah) who provides me with food and drink, all kinds of drink, honey, water and milk, and gave me the ability to consume it.
Some said, “We heard a young man, called Abraham, speaking ˹ill˺ of them.” They demanded, “Bring him before the eyes of the people, so that they may witness ˹his trial˺.” They asked, “Was it you who did this to our gods, O Abraham?” He replied ˹sarcastically˺, “No, this one—the biggest of them—did it! So ask them, if they can talk!” So they came back to their senses, saying ˹to one another˺, “You yourselves are truly the wrongdoers!” Then they ˹quickly˺ regressed to their ˹original˺ mind-set, ˹arguing,˺ “You already know that those ˹idols˺ cannot talk.” Shame on you and whatever you worship instead of Allah! Do you not have any sense?” Al-Anbiya 21: 57-66
(And indeed, one of those who followed his way was Abraham. ˹Remember˺ when he came to his Lord with a pure heart, and said to his father and his people, “What are you worshipping? Is it false gods that you desire instead of Allah? What then do you expect from the Lord of all worlds?” He later looked up to the stars ˹in contemplation˺, then said, “I am really sick.” So they turned their backs on him and went away. Then he ˹stealthily˺ advanced towards their gods, and said ˹mockingly˺, “Will you not eat ˹your offerings˺? What is wrong with you that you cannot speak?”
Then he swiftly turned on them, striking ˹them˺ with his right hand. Later, his people came rushing towards him ˹furiously˺. He argued, “How can you worship what you carve ˹with your own hands˺, when it is Allah Who created you and whatever you do?” ) As-Saffat 37:83-98
فَأَقْبَلُوا إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ}
