Were the Believers Among Aad Also Destroyed by the Wind?
Allah, by His mercy, saved the believers from the horrific punishment in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. “When Our command came, We rescued Hud and those who believed with him by a mercy from Us, saving them from a harsh torment” (Surah Hud 11:58). “Then We saved Our messengers and those who believed. For it is Our duty to save the believers” (Surah Yunus 10:103).
1. Rescue Named as an Obligation Allah Set Upon Himself |
Surah Yunus 10:103 uses striking language, describing saving the believers as “Our duty,” a self-imposed obligation rather than a mere possibility. This same principle of guaranteed rescue for believers appears with Nuh’s family, covered in Was Nuh’s Son a Believer, and How Did He React to the Punishment?, and with Saleh’s followers, covered in Were the Believers Among Thamud Also Destroyed by the Punishment?
2. Saved From Both Worlds’ Punishment |
The rescue described here mirrors the double-sided punishment described for the disbelievers, covered in What Awaits Aad’s Disbelievers in the Hereafter? Just as the disbelievers faced consequences in both this life and the next, the believers were granted safety in both, showing the same completeness applied to mercy as to punishment.
3. A Pattern Confirmed Across Every Destroyed Nation |
By this point in the chapter, the same pattern has now repeated with Nuh, Saleh, and Hud (peace be upon them): whenever Allah destroyed a disbelieving nation, the believers among them, however few, were preserved. This consistency across entirely separate eras and peoples reinforces it as a fixed principle rather than a coincidence specific to any one story.
Scholarly Insight: Surah Hud 11:58 and Surah Yunus 10:103 confirm that Hud and the believers with him were saved from both worldly and otherworldly punishment, framed as an obligation Allah set upon Himself to save the believers. Read the fuller context in the tafsir of Surah Yunus.
