What is the abode for hypocrites on Judgment Day?
The answer gives the abode of the hypocrites from two verses: Allah has promised the hypocrite men and women and the disbelievers the Fire of Hell, abiding in it, with a lasting punishment (At-Tawbah 9:68), and He commands giving them the tidings of a painful punishment (An-Nisa 4:138).
1. The Everlasting Fire
Allah Almighty explicitly defines the eternal abode for those who conceal disbelief while pretending to have faith. He pairs them directly with the outright disbelievers to show the gravity of their sin.
Allah says: (Allah has promised the hypocrite men and women and the disbelievers the Fire of Hell, abiding in it forever; it is sufficient for them. Allah has cursed them, and they will have a lasting punishment.) Surah At-Tawbah 9:68.
2. The Painful Punishment
To further highlight the humiliation of the hypocrites, the Quran uses a striking rhetorical style, offering them "good news" of what is actually a terrifying destiny. This reflects how they thought they were cleverly fooling the believers in this world.
And Allah says: (Give the hypocrites the tidings that they will have a painful punishment) Surah An-Nisa 4:138.

يبين الجواب مصير المنافقين من آيتين: توعد الله المنافقين والمنافقات والكفار بنار جهنم خالدين فيها (التوبة 9:68)، وأمر أن يبشروا بالعذاب الأليم (النساء 4:138).
نار جهنم الخالدة
يحدد الله تعالى صراحة المسكن الأبدي لأولئك الذين يخفون الكفر ويتظاهرون بالإيمان. وقد قرنهم مباشرة بالكفار الصريحين لإظهار فداحة ذنبهم.
قال الله تعالى: (وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَالْمُنَافِقَاتِ وَالْكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ هِيَ حَسْبُهُمْ ۚ وَلَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّقِيمٌ) التوبة 9: 68.
العذاب الأليم
ولمزيد من إبراز إذلال المنافقين، يستخدم القرآن أسلوبا بلاغيا لافتا، حيث يقدم لهم "بشرى" بما هو في الواقع مصير مرعب. وهذا يعكس كيف اعتقدوا أنهم يخدعون المؤمنين بذكاء في هذه الدنيا.
وقال الله تعالى: (بَشِّرِ الْمُنَافِقِينَ بِأَنَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا) النساء 4: 138.
1. The Lowest Depth of the Fire | الدرك الأسفل من النار
Allah says: the hypocrites will be in the lowest depth of the Fire, and you will never find for them a helper (An-Nisa 4:145). Ibn Kathir reports from Ibn Abbas: in the bottom of the Fire; from others: the Fire has levels going down, as Paradise has levels going up; and from Ibn Mas'ud: in coffins of fire closed upon them.
إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِي الدَّرْكِ الْأَسْفَلِ مِنَ النَّارِ وَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُمْ نَصِيرًا (سورة النساء: 145)
قال تعالى: إن المنافقين في الدرك الأسفل من النار ولن تجد لهم نصيرا (النساء 4:145). نقل ابن كثير عن ابن عباس: "أي: في أسفل النار"، وعن غيره: "النار دركات، كما أن الجنة درجات"، وعن ابن مسعود: "في توابيت من نار تطبق عليهم".
2. Abiding in It, Sufficient for Them | خالدين فيها هي حسبهم
Ibn Kathir explains the answer's verse: abiding in it means remaining in it forever, they and the disbelievers; it is sufficient for them means it is enough for them as punishment; and Allah has cursed them means He drove them away and distanced them (At-Tawbah 9:68).
قال ابن كثير في آية الجواب: "(خالدين فيها) أي: ماكثين فيها مخلدين، هم والكفار، (هي حسبهم) أي: كفايتهم في العذاب، (ولعنهم الله) أي: طردهم وأبعدهم" (التوبة 9:68).
3. They Believed, Then Disbelieved | آمنوا ثم كفروا
Allah says: that is because they believed, then disbelieved, so their hearts were sealed, and they do not understand (Al-Munafiqun 63:3). Ibn Kathir explains the tidings of a painful punishment in An-Nisa 4:138 the same way: the hypocrites believed, then disbelieved, so their hearts were sealed.
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ آمَنُوا ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا فَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ (سورة المنافقون: 3)
قال تعالى: ذلك بأنهم آمنوا ثم كفروا فطبع على قلوبهم فهم لا يفقهون (المنافقون 63:3). وبين ابن كثير أن المبشرين بالعذاب الأليم في آية النساء 4:138 هم المنافقون الذين آمنوا ثم كفروا فطبع على قلوبهم.
