1. Decreased water (Ghad) | الماء المغيض

Water that falls and is sucked into the earth. From the verb (Ghad - means becomes less).

(And it was said, "O earth! Swallow up your water. And O sky! Withhold your rain." The floodwater receded and the decree was carried out.) [Hud 11: 44]

(وَغِيضَ الْمَاءُ وَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ) [هود: ٤٤]

2. Oozing pus (Sadeed) | الماء الصديد

The drink of the people of Hell-Fire.

(Awaiting them is Hell, and they will be left to drink oozing pus) [Ibrahim 14: 16]

(مِّن وَرَائِهِ جَهَنَّمُ وَيُسْقَىٰ مِن مَّاءٍ صَدِيدٍ) [إبراهيم: ١٦]

3. Murky water (Muhl) | ماء المهل

Melted minerals or boiling oil.

(When they cry for aid, they will be aided with water like molten metal, which will burn their faces.) [Al-Kahf 18: 29]

(وَإِن يَسْتَغِيثُوا يُغَاثُوا بِمَاءٍ كَالْمُهْلِ يَشْوِي الْوُجُوهَ) [الكهف: ٢٩]

4. Water from the earth | ماء الأرض

Created with the earth and stays until Doomsday.

(We sent down rain from the sky in perfect measure, causing it to soak into the earth.) [Al-Mu'uminun 23: 18]

(وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً بِقَدَرٍ فَأَسْكَنَّاهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ) [المؤمنون: ١٨]

5. Pure water (Tahur) | الماء الطهور

Sweet, purifying water.

(and We send down from the sky pure water) [Al-Furqan 25: 48]

(وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً طَهُورًا) [الفرقان: ٤٨]

6. Drinking water | ماء الشرب

(He is the One Who sends down rain from the sky, from which you drink) [Al-Nahl 16: 10]

(هُوَ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً ۖ لَّكُم مِّنْهُ شَرَابٌ) [النحل: ١٠]

7. Salty-Bitter Water (Ajaj) | الماء الأجاج

Extremely salty water which is not potable.

(And He is the One Who merges the two bodies of water: one fresh and palatable and the other salty and bitter) [Al-Furqan 25: 53]

(هَٰذَا عَذْبٌ فُرَاتٌ وَهَٰذَا مِلْحٌ أُجَاجٌ) [الفرقان: ٥٣]

8. Worthless water (Maheen) | الماء المهين

Human fluid (semen) named for its vulnerability.

(Then He made his descendants from an extract of a humble fluid) [As-Sajdah 32: 8]

(ثُمَّ جَعَلَ نَسْلَهُ مِن سُلَالَةٍ مِّن مَّاءٍ مَّهِينٍ) [السجدة: ٨]

9. Unaltered Water (Ghayr Asin) | الماء غير الآسن

Fresh running water that does not change in smell or taste.

(in it are rivers of fresh water, rivers of milk that never changes in taste,) [Muhammad 47: 15]

(فِيهَا أَنْهَارٌ مِّن مَّاءٍ غَيْرِ آسِنٍ) [محمد: ١٥]

10. Scalding Water (Hameem) | الماء الحميم

Boiling water.

(left to drink boiling water that will tear apart their insides?) [Muhammad 47: 15]

(وَسُقُوا مَاءً حَمِيمًا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَاءَهُمْ) [محمد: ١٥]

11. Blessed Water (Mubarak) | الماء المبـارك

Water that brings growth and goodness.

(And We send down blessed rain from the sky, bringing forth gardens and grains for harvest,) [Qaf 50: 9]

(وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً مُّبَارَكًا فَأَنبَتْنَا بِهِ جَنَّاتٍ وَحَبَّ الْحَصِيدِ) [ق: ٩]

12. Water pouring abundantly (Munhamir) | الماء المنهـمر

Heavy flow that destroys crops.

(So We opened the gates of the sky with pouring rain.) [Al-Qamar 54: 11]

(فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَاءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ) [القمر: ١١]

13. Pouring water (Maskub) | الماء المسكوب

Gentle flow that provides comfort.

(And water poured out) [Al-Waqi'ah 56: 31]

(وَمَاءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ) [الواقعة: ٣١]

14. Sunken Water (Ghawr) | الماء الغور

Water that sinks deep and becomes unusable.

(Or its water will become sunken [into the earth], so you would never be able to seek it.) [Al-Kahf 18: 41]

(أَوْ يُصْبِحَ مَاؤُهَا غَوْرًا فَلَن تَسْتَطِيعَ لَهُ طَلَبًا) [الكهف: ٤١]

15. Flowing water (Ma'een) | الماء المعين

Accessible and usable water.

(Say, "Have you considered: if your water was to become sunken, then who could bring you flowing water?") [Al-Mulk 67: 30]

(فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَاءٍ مَّعِينٍ) [الملك: ٣٠]

16. Abundant Water (Ghadaq) | الماء الغـدق

(We should surely have bestowed on them water in abundance) [Al-Jinn 72: 16]

(لَّأَسْقَيْنَاهُم مَّاءً غَدَقًا) [الجن: ١٦]

17. Sweet Water (Furatan) | الماء الفرات

(Did We not create you from a liquid disdained? ... and given you sweet water to drink?) [Al-Mursalat 77: 27]

(وَأَسْقَيْنَاكُم مَّاءً فُرَاتًا) [المرسلات: ٢٧]

18. Pouring Water (Thajjajan) | الماء الثجاج

(And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water) [Al-Naba'a 78: 14]

(وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا) [النبأ: ١٤]

19. Ejected Water (Dafiq) | الماء الدافق

(He was created from a fluid, ejected) [At-Tareq 86: 6]

(خُلِقَ مِن مَّاءٍ دَافِقٍ) [الطارق: ٦]

20. River and Springs Water | ماء الأنهار والينابيع

(Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky and makes it flow as springs in the earth;) [Az-Zummar 39: 21]

(فَسَلَكَهُ يَنَابِيعَ فِي الْأَرْضِ) [الزمر: ٢١]

21. Salsabeel Water | الماء السلسبيل

Easy-to-swallow water of Paradise.

(a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel) [Al-Insan 76: 18]

(عَيْنًا فِيهَا تُسَمَّىٰ سَلْسَبِيلًا) [الإنسان: ١٨]
