Reflections on the Name of Allah: Al-Mu’min

The Guarantor. The Giver of Faith. The One who witnessed for Himself that no one is God but Him. And He witnessed for His believers that they are truthful in their belief that no one is God but Him.

Al-Mu’min which is the quality that has enabled the hearts to experience this feeling and brought us together. Al-Mu’min is the inspirer of faith and the giver of security. He’s the one who’s sent down His book and Messengers with signs of clear proof for all who’d listen.

He is the one who provides justice and security to His creations. He fulfills all His promises and will never punish any creature unfairly. He is as His servant expects Him to be,

( “Indeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom’s weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.” ) An-Nisa 4: 40

The distinction between the term “mu’min” when applied to believers and when ascribed to Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) is as follows. In the Qur’an, “mu’min” is used to describe believers who have faith in Allah and His messengers, as well as in the unseen aspects of the faith. They are those who affirm the truth of the articles of faith and strive to live according to Islamic teachings.

When the term is applied to Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ), it signifies His attribute of being the one who confirms Himself as true, reliable, and trustworthy. Allah is the ultimate source of security, surety, and peace, and His existence and attributes are absolute and undeniable.

There is no comparison between Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) and His creation. His attributes are unique and incomparable, and each attribute carries profound meanings that reflect His perfection and transcendence.

( He is Allah than Whom there is La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He) the King, the Holy, the One Free from all defects, the Giver of security, the Watcher over His creatures, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah! (High is He) above all that they associate as partners with Him.) Al-Hashr 59: 23
