Surah Az-Zalzalah is the 99th chapter of the Quran, containing 8 verses. Revealed in Madinah, it describes the earth shaken with its final, violent earthquake, casting out all its burdens, as man asks in astonishment what is happening to it. On that Day the earth will report all that occurred upon it by its Lord’s command, and mankind will come forth in scattered groups to be shown their deeds, for whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it. Below you can read the full Surah Az-Zalzalah in Arabic with a clear English translation and a verse-by-verse tafsir (explanation of the meaning) from Aysar al-Tafaseer, with the option to jump to any specific verse.

{ يَوْمَئِذٍ }

Surah Az-Zalzalah: Verse 4
4. Thus when the convulsion occurs, and the earth is disturbed and agitated from its very core, on that day it will tell what man did on it. Abu Huraira said: “The Messenger of Allah read this verse, ‘On that day the earth will tell its news’, and he said: “Do you know what its news is?’ They said: ‘Allah and His Messenger alone know.’ He said: ‘It will testify against what each person and each nation did upon it. It will say, ‘Man did so and so on such and such a day.’ This is its news.” (Reported by al-Bukhari)

Surah Az-Zalzalah: Verse 5
5. All this happens to the earth because Allah Almighty commands it to convulse and divide and tell what each one did on it, therefore it obeys its Lord’s command.
{ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَصْدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشْتَاتاً لِّيُرَوْاْ أَعْمَالَهُمْ }
Surah Az-Zalzalah: Verse 6
6. When the earth convulses and is demolished, Allah Almighty raises the dead from their graves, gathers them for the account and judges betweeen them with His absolute justice. They will then return after giving account, as distinct groups. The righteous will be together on their way to the house of rewards, while the criminal wrongdoing sinners will be on their way to the house of punishment to find the requital for what they did in their life on earth.
{ فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْراً يَرَهُ }
