Who was the one Allah referred to in Surah Al-Muddathir [74:11-16]?

من المقصود في قوله تعالى في سورة المدثر [١١-١٦]؟

The individual referred to in Surah Al-Muddathir (verses 11-16) is Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi. Despite being granted abundant wealth and children, he remained stubborn and arrogant toward the revelations of Allah.
المقصود في قوله تعالى في سورة المدثر (الآيات ١١-١٦) هو الوليد بن المغيرة المخزومي، الذي أنعم الله عليه بالمال والبنين والجاه، لكنه واجه آيات الله بالكبر والعناد.

Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah was one of the prominent leaders of the Quraish. Allah describes in these verses how He created him alone (without wealth or children), then granted him vast fortunes and sons who were always by his side. Despite this ease of life, his arrogance grew, and he challenged the truth of the Quran, for which he was promised a severe consequence.

كان الوليد بن المغيرة من سادات قريش وأغنيائهم. تصف الآيات كيف خلقه الله وحيداً لا مال له ولا ولد، ثم أغدق عليه النعم حتى صار له مال ممدود وبنون حضور لا يفارقونه. وبدلاً من الشكر، استكبر وعاند الحق، فنزلت هذه الآيات تتوعده بالعذاب ليكون عبرة لكل من يقابل نعم الله بالجحود.

(ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا * وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا * وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا * وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُ تَمْهِيدًا * ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ * كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِآيَاتِنَا عَنِيدًا)

Scholarly Insight: These verses showcase a divine challenge to the arrogant soul. The term "Waheedan" refers to him being born alone, or created by Allah without intermediaries, reminding man of his humble origins regardless of the worldly power he later acquires.
