The believer did not stop defending the truth and repelling oppression from the oppressed, particularly, the one who was subjected to injustice was the Prophet of Allah, Moses, peace be upon him. He said the following:
First: He scared them by reminding them of the punishment of Allah, Exalted and Sublime be He, in the worldly life, so he said to them: I fear for you, if you insisted on killing Moses and if you kill him, “O my people! I truly fear for you the doom of ˹earlier˺ enemy forces” (Ghafir 40: 30) He meant the day when Allah destroyed Noah’s people, the day when Allah destroyed Hud’s people and the day when Allah destroyed Saleh’s people. Because those people threatened their Prophets and belied them, Allah destroyed them, so I fear that you will be subjected to the same punishment as them since you are doing as they did.
Second: He scared them by reminding them of the Day of Resurrection. He said: O my people! I truly fear for you the Day all will be crying out ˹to each other” It is the Day of Resurrection, when the oppressed will cry out to the oppressor, and when the people of Paradise will cry out to the owners of Hell-fire, and vice versa.
“the Day you will ˹try in vain to˺ turn your backs and run away” : You flee from those you have wronged, and you will not succeed, because it is the Day of Proclamation. Besides, you cannot escape from Allah’s Wrath and Punishment in the worldly life or in the Hereafter. It was as if the people did not listen to his advice, so he said: “And whoever Allah leaves to stray will be left with no guide”
Third: He realized the uselessness of giving them advice since they were determined to belie Moses. Therefore, he moved from advising them to blaming them for the past wrongdoings of their ancestors, reminding them of how they dared to doubt the Prophethood of Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him.
“And the man who believed cautioned, “O my people! I truly fear for you the doom of ˹earlier˺ enemy forces* like the fate of the people of Noah, ’Ȃd, Thamûd, and those after them. For Allah would never will to wrong ˹His˺ servants* O my people! I truly fear for you the Day all will be crying out ˹to each other˺* the Day you will ˹try in vain to˺ turn your backs and run away, with no one to protect you from Allah. And whoever Allah leaves to stray will be left with no guide. Joseph already came to you1 earlier with clear proofs, yet you never ceased to doubt what he came to you with. When he died you said, ‘Allah will never send a messenger after him.’” (Ghafir 40: 30-34)
